2008 Cobalt SS is Turbocharged. the proof is in....
^^^ Same here. I don't see why anybody would buy a 260 horse Cobalt for 23-26k (assumming a bit of a price increase) when they can have a Z28 Camaro that is pushing 300-350 hourses + RWD, which is going to start at an estimated 27/28k....it just doesn't make sence to me unless they greatly reduce the price of the Cobalt.

Look for the new 6-spd auto transmission to hopefully make its debut.

I planned on holding out for the 5th gen F-body but couldn't wait til 2008, happy with the SS/SC for now.
If the artical is true it is probably the same engine that is going in the Solstice GXP/ Sky Redline. A turbo 2.0 Ecotech , w/vvt and direct injection, rated at . . . 260hp, I like that setup over whats offered right now. It is also the same engine that was in the Opel Speedster turbo, a mid-engine set up. Its been around. Got to remember Dodge just annunced the SRT4 Caliber 300HP turbo'd DOHC 2.4L FWD. Just so long as it didn't overlap into the Camaro's I don't see why not.
turbo=higher insurance
260hp, il be over that by then and happy, to each there own, where i live all i hear are blow off valves, annoyin as hell, i like the whine, still gotta see it to believe it though.

I just heard from a good source that knows a guy that knew a dude who's dog's went to obedience school together and he said that the 2010 Cobalt SS will have a warp core drive and a flux capacitor all wheel drive, rear wheel drive and front wheel drive via wheel locks and heads up display and optional rocket boosters. Aftermarket parts will include a Turbo to Supercharger swap as well.

They are making an SS vette though. It's been in the works for a while now. Should have over 650 hp or so.
I can also see GM making the change to the turbo setup because of how much more power can be had. It's also much easier to add more power to a turbo car than a s/c car and i think GM might be making the change the tuner market. Which is nice to see an automotive company do. Also the next Cobalt SS also needs to be rwd or at least awd. No more of this fwd bullshit.
Solstice has the 2.4 and so does the Cobalt SS na so i woulnd't see why it being transversely mounted in the Cobalt would be a problem. I don't see gm putting in the less advanced and less powerfull boosted 4 cylinder when the competition is stepping up there game. Also keeping two forced induction 4 cylinders is pointless especially when the 2.0T is a much more advanced motor then the LSJ's. Hopefully Gm takes into consideration of the new Camero's price tag when they are pricing it.

260 HP turbo cobalt.....I don't really think it'll stomp an ss/sc, here's why. Even this early in the game, people can already achieve 250-260 HP with a Stage 2, intake, manifold and exhaust setup on their ss/sc, that puts us equal to the turbo cobalt already. Imagine how big the aftermarket, and how much more we will be able to add to our sc's over the next year and a half, whereas the turbo cobalt would be just like the 05 sc, brand new and small in the aftermarket field.
Dont expect the full 260 hp . The engine itself would be the same Solstice/Sky , and the intercooler would work , but all the plumbing would be FWD specific .
To the comment about the lack of a 2008 Redline . Think again , in a nice way
The Opel Astra ( same platform as our Cobalt in Europe) has officially been confirmed as the Ion's replacement . Its supposed to be in showrooms fall 2007 . The VXR version which is already turbocharged and already has a 6-speed manual would be your Redline . Though it will not have the same powertrain as it does now , which is still a family 1 2.0 turbocharged eco . Dig into the Astra VXR's aftermarket in the UK . 285 wp with a downpipe and a pcm tune
Its a very good thing for us this car is coming here , we should also benefit from the Astra's better handling ....on every model .
Tofu - Chrysler sells alot of PTturbo's , why give them all that . I guess a HHR-t woulda been more proper than slapping a SS badge on it though .
