Sorry but it's not a downpipe...it's called a B Pipe. Downpipe refers to the part of the exhaust system that comes off a turbocharger.

I understand that but it's still improper terminology.

3" is good when u approach the 300hp area, with a stage 2 and intake ur not quite there yet, so ur better off with the 2.5"

Vibrant was going to be 3" but they showed no increase in power (maybe even a decrease). last word they were testing 2.5 and 2.75" so we will see what they come up with.

you don't have to spool a turbo I'd say no need for 3in.

Agreed.

The less backpressure a turbocharger has, the easier and faster the turbine can spin.

right now they arnt... but what happens when GM stage 3 comes out? or we are all putting on 2.6" pulley with 60lb injectors, tuned. Then we would have wished we had a 3" exhaust instead of having to upgrade an exhaust that you just bought a couple months ago...

It's more of a threat with 60#/2.5" pullies/tuned.. We've already got a few people doing it (At least 3) and so far so good from my understanding.

In my opinion, you guys really need to open up the exhaust ports to really take advantage of a 3" exhaust system.

recently bulldog, cobaltsupercharged and I went to the grand am cup and it would appear that the cobalts were running stock exhaust. they were insanely quiet though and we couldn't figure out why as they were quieter than a stock ss. the only thing you could hear was the super charger as they passed us at 130+. That being said in even race applications it does not appear to have any benefit to go larger than a 2.5.
