300 hp build
I read somewhere that the Ariel Atom people may have a 300hp supercharged 2.0 that they use along side a civic type R motor. If this is true does anyone have a build sheet on the differences so I can replicate a 300hp build for my LSJ?
The "300hp" stage on the Atom was 300 HP at the flywheel not WHP. Additional to that this stage came short of the promised 300 flywheel HP. On my Atom it had 229WHP. This happened to all Atom 300 owners. I believe this is compatible with GMs stage 3 kit.
It's an improved LSJ, but yes, it's the same motor, crammed into a go-kart
The SS S/C Stage 3 puts out 248 WHP on pump gas, which assuming a 10% driveline loss is about 275 flywheel HP, or about 291 if you assume a 15% loss. Regardless of its actual crank or wheel HP though, that thing is still crazy fast
Building an engine that puts out just as much power shouldn't be hard, but if you're thinking of getting our 'balts to do a sub-3 0-60, I
at you, hehe.

Hey kempo!
I have one of these "300hp" Atoms like Kempo. At most the ecotec atoms from Brammo ran about 280 crank HP at most. Unfortunately they had inadequate supercharger cooling so heat soak compromised some of that power. Through some tuning and modification we have one up to 300 crank HP though so it can be done.
The engine is a stock LSJ without any internal modification. Brammo made their own dual pass end endplate for the supercharger but is just like other 3rd party dual pass endplate. The injectors are 42 lbs injectors. The extra power comes from tuning, a larger exhaust and intake, smaller pulley and water injection.
I dont know what would be comparable to the Atom's intake that would be available for the cobalt. It is the same diameter as the throttle body. The exhaust is 3" and custom made and does not have a cat.
The pulley is a 2.9" and the water injection an aquamist pump I believe on this car. I'm using a Perrin Performance WI kit on mine.
The Atom uses a cobalt ECU but the tune and software is proprietary from GM Racing so HPtuners would not access it. So we started from scratch with a cobalt ECU. The Tune is about 80% done.

Atom Owners:
I'm trying to put a LSJ into a Fiero and was hoping I might be able to use a lot of the same electronics, harnesses, etc. Brammo does not respond to my emails. Do you guys have a site you can order factory replacement parts from?
thanks,
Shab

I doubt you'll get Brammo to sell you parts like that. The harness is going to be customized for the Atom and it's SPA dash. So I doubt you would want to go that way. It would be better to go with an ECU out of a cobalt or saturn ion. Brammo wont sell just the Atom ECU. Plus, GM's tune isn't the best. It runs rich and destroys catalytic converters. Plus it is tuned for the Atom intake and exhaust which are quite a bit different. I'd just get a stock LSJ from somewhere like crate engine depot .

PS- I currently own 7 V8 engines. Want one?
for 300 to the tire i'd consider cooling mods and probably a ported blower with a 2.6 and water/meth
I already have an engine and a Ion Red line ECU. I'm trying to get components that are a little easier to setup with them. There's nothing wrong with the Ion's cluster, but, it's not exactly what I'm looking for, either. What does SPA stand for, anyway?

It's not that bad. Nothing special though. It has shift lights that are not nearly bright enough, the speedometer frequently gets stuck for other owners. There are some electrical issues with the car that manifest in the dash (turn on the lights and the coolant temp on the dash goes up 20 degrees) but that's not a dash issue.
I would not buy one if it had not already come with the car.
