3rd gear WOT hesitation issue

Hi all....

I noticed something strange the other day. I have a hesitation at 3.5k rpm's WOT. And it's exactly at 3.5k rpm's, and everytime at WOT. It doesn't do it when I'm doing normal driving and decide to get up to that rpm range. It's odd...maybe fuel pump? When I mean hesitation, it's like it gets to 3.5k, thinks about it, then goes again. Almost like a slipping clutch, but that's def not the problem.

Mods: GM stage 2, custom muffler, airbox mod and custom HP tune from Wicked himself.

I can probably replace the fuel filter and plugs since I'm not sure if it was ever done. I currently have 53k miles on the car.

My only thought is to replace fuel filter, plugs, maybe wiring. Other than that, a larger fuel pump (which I may have to since I'm jumping to 60# injectors and smaller pulley this summer).

The stock plugs are platinum so they should be good until 100k. I would put the gm stage 2 tune back in and see how it performs. 3500 is about the time where the car goes into power enrichment mode, but that's customizable depending on the calibration.

This is interesting......I actually just did a tranny flush to Royal Purple last weekend because I was getting 2nd and 3rd gear grinding with Redline fluid. My problem with grinding was resolved, but why would the tranny fluid cause 3rd gear hesitation?

When I did the flush, I put fluid in till it came running out so I knew it was full. How do you check the fluid level -- through the fill plug with the ole finger check? I'll check it again, but I put 2qt's in, well roughly since you can't tip the bottle all the way up. I'd say 1.7 or 1.8. It came pouring out when I did it.

just check it sometimes low oil fluid will make it even hesitate and can still mess up your trans.

I would change the plugs...100k plug change intervals is bs with a custom tune with more timing, and essenitally more fuel being burnt.

That's what I was thinking......plus it can't hurt anything. Changing plugs is cake work. Same with the fuel filter.

Hmm.........intersting. The one thing I just remembered was that I went to Sunoco the other day to get their 94 octane gas. I wonder if that has something to do with it. I'm going to run it out today and get some BP 93 and see if that helps. I wouldn't think a higher octane gas would make that much of a difference. Then again, this is a different language to me. But your idea make me think about the newer gas I was using. Wicked may be able to better answer that question since it's his tune that I'm using. I don't have an a/f ratio gauge. Although the scanguage does read it, it's not 100 accurate. According to it, I am at 14.7 for most driving conditions, dropping into the 11's at WOT. Again -- this is probably not accurate as the scanguage isn't the best tool for reading this type of data.

Your car wouldn't 'learn' an octane like you are thinking.

It starts off high, and if it knocks too much it switches to a low octane timing table.

I think it is your plugs, unless your car waits too long to go into PE, but I have never even tuned an LSJ, so I could be talking out of my ******* too.

Plugs are fairly cheap. I think I will start with those and get some top end plugs since I'll be upgrading crap this summer anyways. If it doesn't fix it, I can always sell them

Get NGKs.

More $$$$ doesn't mean a better plug.

What are the B7KRE s or something?

Someone chime in who knows...get the stock heat range...gap them correctly blah blah blah

Plugs. My plugs were fuel fouled like mad for some reason *cough* and gave mine a similar issue. Plugs fixed it and I only have 23k on my car. I paid like $10 for mine.

PS- No slipping clutch here!!

I dunno -- your shop manager is a loser, so I try to stay away from there

X2. If it feels like a quick buck and then continues normally you could be knocking.

Yeah -- I got the plugs last night, so we'll try them. I'll probably gap them at .037 since most people seem to have best luck with that gap according to some posts around here. My scanguage does have a knock retard gauge on it, but it reads in degrees....is that right? If so, what would be "normal". I'm going to plug it in and do some WOT runs on my way home from work.
