Question 60's or 42's

I have installed my first wave of parts, Injen intake, Bad-Mab header & Corsa Touring exhaust. I am getting a baseline dyno followed by a tune in about two weeks and was wondering which injectors to get?

I have NOT pullied down yet, but it makes more since for me to get a tune for these mods w/injectors as the stock ones are insufficient. I will end up with a 2.9 and would prefer the 60's to the 42's because of room for growth. However I hear the 60's are a pain to tune at idle and Vince says even with the idle smooth it runs rich at idle and part throttle.

Thoughts?

42s will run a 2.9 perfectly, go with them they are much closer to the factory experience, of course if you have intentions in making anything more as far as power you will have to bump up to the 60s if you decide to pulley down further

If you are getting injectors and a tune, you might as well get the pulley now. They are only like $50. That being said, get the 60's.

If I'm not mistaken the true determining factor for what size injectors I will need will be the HP not the psi.

I am shooting for 270-280ish whp on a 2.9. Are the 42's good for that? Because if so then that should work.

If you have no desire to go below 2.9 and have superior driveability I would disagree that 60s are the best option

However your not going to hit 270-280 on 42s, even with meth injection thats a stretch, your going to have to go to 2.8 at least or 2.7 pulley to reach that power

You have a couple of options man....

1. You could follow the LSJ build book (port the head, higher compression pistons, cams, valve springs, etc.), and make some decent power while still using 42lb/hr injectors and a larger pulley. Add nitrous to the mix, and you will have an SS/SC that makes more power than 90% of the kiddies on this site.

but.... no one ever really wants to spend the time to build their engine up correctly, and that leads me to your other option.

2. Do what everyone else does on this site, pulley down, slap some 60's on, and get a tune. This is your easiest, and best option for making some decent power. If you dont feel like tearing into your engine, but def want room to expand, I say purchase the 60's now and be done with it.

I still run 42's, and have made some decent power with them, but I do not run an M62, and I will be building my engine in the near future to push power further.

Thanks, 42's it is. On the power thing, I'm inclined to agree with you, but optimistic none the less.

Put it this way....

The average WHP (SS/SC), for 90% of this site is prob in the 250whp range.

I know 10% making over the 250whp range doesnt sound like much, but you have to take into consideration how big this site is. If you were to follow the build book (still use 42's), and through some nitrous in the mix, you would def be making more power than most of the kids on here.

That's kind of what I was trying to get at.

Most give up on the 42's, because they wont support the flow needed for small pulley's, or bigger blowers, but if you build the motor up right you can still make some good power with them & the M62. It all depends how far you want to push it, and how much power you want to make in the end.

I am relieved to see at least a few others have noticed this. To me the way that most people approach making power on these cars is awkward to me to say the least. I only plan on doing a few waves of installs and above all want balance. I suppose that's why I plan to reach my goals.

Thanks for all the input guys. Seems like we're on slightly different paths to the same goal.
