Abnormally high highway mileage?
Abnormally high highway mileage?
So I was cruising home today and had a nice open stretch of freeway where I could just set the cruise and go...so I decided to reset my MPG readout to see what kind of hwy mpg I can get just cruising at 65. I've gotten 33-34 on the hwy before, but over a 20 mile stretch, I averaged 38.2 mpg. I was shocked, especially with this canned Stage 2 tune.
I had thought our mpg calculators were supposed to be pretty reliable, but this seems too good to be true. I was cruising at 65, road was flat (Houston, TX, lol) except for the occassional overpass, and I wasn't "drafting" anyone. Granted, this was only for a 20 mile stretch, but is anyone else seeing this kind of hwy mileage occasionally in their SS/SC?

my average mpg ever since my mods is 31.4mpg. and i am in cruise control at 79mph on the highway alot and do some racing and do some "spirited driving"
so i guess i can see that especially at 65mph.
I don't have stage 2 yet, but the last time I traveled I averaged 38 as well. I took a pic on my phone cause I thought it was pretty crazy. But I also made a point to stay out of boost as much as possible.
That's pretty normal. I go down to San Antonio & back (from Austin) which is about 150 miles round trip, and always average about 35-38 mpg, going about 75-80 mph. Did you reset the DIC while you were driving? It goes down very fast once you drop speed and drive in normal traffic & side streets.
UltraCSS is correct, though. If you calculate it the old fashioned way, it will always be 3-4 MPG lower than what the DIC says.

2.0's are little engines so as long as you stay out of boost I'd say its right. My 2.4 gets about 32 mpg on the highway so this isn't a big surprise. Besides you guys have a 5 spd and mines an automatic so if its not dead on its damn close.
Interesting, thanks for all the replies.
I "spot check" my mpg every once in awhile by calculating it myself and it's never been off by more than 2 mpg. Oh well, either way it's still pretty good mileage.
Zed - How are you liking the Ingalls? What setting did you put it on?

With 91 otc the best I can get is 28-30. When I was back in Texas I was up there with you guys when running 93. I got a hold of a tank of 100 otc and it went way up. I was in the 30's with allot of aggressive driving in the city and a little highway.
