Okay, here's my current set-up:

Injen Intake
Stage 2
Pulleyboy's 2.8 for S2

I was thinking about GMPP or Magnaflow. If I'm gonna go spend around $400, I want to be sure that it will make a noticeable difference. What do ya think?

Not huge, but you will hear and feel a differene when you hit north of 6K RPM. The stock exhaust is good but starts to choke wehn you hit the higher end of the RPM band. I feel the difference with my Magnaflow. It's probably good for about 10-12 hp but is a must for Stage 2 with a smaller pulley and intake. I'm wondering if a header and downpipe is worth the coin. My past experience tells me no but some will beg to differ with me on that I'm sure. The Magnaflow costs a little more than GMPP but is worth it in my opinion.

Just go with a universal Magnaflow. The difference in gains between a full cat-back magnaflow and just the muffler will be negligible on a 4 cylinder engine. I put on a universal Magnaflow and it was $159 installed.

u will notice a difference..... not anything REALLY substantial tho.

well..... on second thought, with the intake and smaller pulley, you are bringing a lot more air into the engine. could see some pretty good gains. if anything, do it so the car stops sounding like a minivan on steroids.

pretty much the same set up as you...As for exhaust i went with magnaflow...my car pulled harder with the magnaflow catback and stg 2 then someone with stg 2 and gmpp exhaust.as for the 2.8" pulley you'll notice it at the higher rpm range.

yah they make a catback, you can get it in a touring form which is a little more deeper, but the sport model is louder and more aggressive.

both are available on www.gmpartsdirect.com for about $600 which i believe is the cheapest i could find, of course i found it after i already purchased mine. If anyone knows where to get it cheaper just say where.

yah if you want quiet then go with the touring model, i however have the sport model and plan on getting my header and downpipe w/o a cat so mine is gonna be rediculously loud. good luck with whichever one you purchase.

has anyone gone the custom exhaust route at a muffler shop using, say, a borla muffler?

you cant get corsa from gmpartsdirect. that is the borla system. Go to any supporting vendor and you can find it. TTR Cobalt-Addiction Intense just check them out.

If you get a magnaflow cat-back or borla or corsa, you might as well throw your money in the street! All those are 2.5" exhausts, and the stock exhaust is 2.5" mandrel bent except the last foot or two. You can do an axle-back exhaust with 2.5" piping for less than $200 out the door (my axle-back after taxes and install was $198.66). I noticed a very nice change, in sound AND performance. I used a universal Magnaflow muffler.
