Isn't the upper part of the AEM plastic? That would bother me if I was spending that kind of money on an intake.

no its polished somethin or other. the only big difference is that this one moves your intake up under the hood

AEM Short Tube Air Intake 05-07 Cobalt SS - 05-07 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged

if its this one it doesnt move it into the engine compartment it replaces your factory airbox in the fender well

Do i keep my factory air box? its seems really restrictive but i live in alberta where we curently have 5 feet of snow and **** roads in summer so i figured it might provide some protection to the filter

if youre worried about hydrolocking, you might even want to look at doing an airbox mod with an oiled filter. aem dryflows tend to absorb water whereas an oiled filter like k&n may not. and you could look into hydroshields. but airbox mods scream too

almost all companies make oiled filters. thats why aem is special because they arent oiled. it keeps your maf clean but also can suck up water. i said k&n because they supposively filter better than any other company. i guess that is argueable though lol

if you want to do the air box mod look up the how to section. you can just get a 3 1/2 in or better yet, 3 1/4 inch. stock is 3.15 inches. i just got a cheap spectra filter and tightened it on to my airbox. it sounded good.

i dont think you can take off the bottom half of the air box. hydroshields are pretty efficient.

The best f***ing intake is the stock one with a K&N replacement filter. It lets out just enough supercharger noise to let people know you've got "work done". It also doesn't ever throw a CEL and won't f**k up your MAF placement.
