AEM is only the short elbow and still retains some of the stock piping. ZZPs 3" CAI is best IMO

i used to use an aem short ram when i first picked up the car and def noticed an increase mid range better drivability compared to stock. im looking forward to trying out zzp's true 3 inch and how that feels. not much gain with a short ram tho just noticable driveablility.

The AEM is not a "short ram" intake....

It only replaces the stock airbox, but gains are similar to other full intakes, because AEM found through testing the stock cold air intake piping was not the restriction.... the paper filter is!

I found that out as well by trying almost every intake under the sun. I now run the stock intake, and a modified stock airbox with K&N E-0777 filter. Intakes are more for sound than anything else on these cars. The stock intake flows very well. Just replace the paper filter, and open up the airbox a bit, and you are set. If you must have the fancy look of an aluminum or stainless intake under the hood, pick any one that is within your budget & fits nice. They all produce about 7-10whp over stock. Don't let some of the kiddies on here fool you into thinking you will experience this big gain. The louder sound of the blower will trick you into thinking there is a lot more power

^^^^ so your saying the stock intake tube with its current diameter and shape is non-restrictive and there isn't any gains when changing to a 3 inch intake. as long as you open up the stock box and chuck that stupid stock filter? i'm asking because i'd be saving a ton of dough by not buying a fujita or injen if all its gunna gain me is some good looks. i'm trying to built power and performance on a strict budget.

The stock intake piping is 3" o.d. give or take.

I've measured mine a number a times.

It is bent into an oblong shape for fitment. This is what confuses people on its actual size. It does not affect the flow though.

Let me put this into perspective.... The Time Attack SS/SC used the same intake setup as me (stock donaldson intake, modified airbox, & k&n filter), and made almost 400whp on nitrous.

Yeah, when I had the AEM intake, I replaced the dryflow filter with a larger K&N filter. It sounded great

This is my airbox.... The only reason I modified mine this way was, because I wanted to use the stock replacement K&N E-0777 filter. You can get an aftermarket filter, clamp it on, and remove the bottom lid all together.

Check by vbgarage to see my mod list

look at the size of the throttle body, and then look at the size of the intake tube, and the air inlet to the stock air box. IMO aftermarket intakes for this car are useless with the stock throttle body. I put an oem replacement AEM dryflow filter in the stock box and called it a day.
