Aeroforce Interceptor Power Source
Aeroforce Interceptor Power Source
I was just wondering if anyone knew for a fact whether or not the newest version of the aeroforce interceptor (SS version for the LSJ) got its power from the OBDII or another source? I know they said they were working on it, but never heard any more than that. I am curious about this because I am getting one for Christmas from the parents and they ordered it over Thanksgiving, so it should be the latest version. I would really like to hear from someone who recently purchased one and knows for sure. Thanks in advance.
From what I remember from installing mine u have to cut the wires from the stock gauge and use the power wire from that and hook it up to the aeroforce, that power wire is switched. And the OBDII port gets plugged in and it takes about 3-4 seconds to power up after u turn the car on. Mine just reads from the OBDII port. I got mine in September
Thanks for the info and pics guys. I guess Aeroforce hasn't worked out a way to get power through the OBDII port yet. Wiring it up isn't a big deal, but it would be cool if it was plug and play.
todd said the newest version he will be sending me is ODBII powered.
I originally ran a seperate line to the fuse box to power mine and he said it is getting "noise" wich is interupting the gauge. it just goes crazy for a minute or 2 then comes back.

Last I heard Aeroforce say something about it , they said once they figured out how to power it from the OBDII they would provide a cable to anyone who previously bought a gauge to retrofit it. I had also heard of some people getting "noisy" power when hooking it up to the stock gauge or even the fuse block and causing problems. Anyways I will have to see once xmas rolls around.

"Installation is accomplished by simply plugging the supplied connector into the OBD2 port
below the steering wheel and connecting a separate included wire to a switched 12v
vehicle power source. Virtually plug-and-play!"

I emailed Aeroforce a while back, and they said the new gauges that receive power from the OBDII will be out in the next few weeks. That's the only way I;ll be getting one, I don't want to have to splice into wires.
Well, here is the response I got from Aeroforce this afternoon:
My email
I was thinking about ordering a gauge from you guys for a 2006 cobalt SS/SC, and want to know if the gauge draws power from the OBDII port or from another source. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thanks for your interest. That particular gauge does need a separate 12V power source, any circuit that's powered only when the ignition on (such as the sunroof) is needed. Thanks again,
Bob
So I guess there's the answer, straight from Aeroforce.

Here's the same thing I got from Bob about a week or so ago.
Hi,
The gauge that gets its power from the OBDII port (does not need a seperate 12V source) will be available in a couple of weeks. Thanks,
Bob
Sounds like there's some obvious confusion going on at Aeroforce.
