air filter for airbox mod

hi, im wanting to do that airbox mod, where you leave off the bottom cover and replace the filter with an aftermarket filter, people say if you not to buy the k&n for $60 when you can get just a regular one for $24.99 kinda thing, anyways what i wanna know, is do they mean just get a replacement one for our car? wont that just be the same as our stock one?? if not what type should i get?? cone?? measurements?? i live in canada so thats why im asking this because no one here carrys the same brands as the states carries. thanks for the help.

get an actual intake, injen seems to be making the best ones for our cars.

mopac (not to be confused with mopar), lordco, canadian tire, or as i specified, there is opening the yellow pages and finding a huge ass list of smaller vendors.

i'd go to the biggest auto part chain out of those and they should have something, otherwise maybe someone in the states could go to AutoZone and ship you one.

Here is one (High flow) that will fit 100% in the stock airbox with the lower cover in place and it's specifically for the 2005-2006 Cobalt SS/SC :

Here is another one (High flow conical) that fit too, but without the lower lid and you'll have to do a little hole to screw the collar that will held the filter in place :

ya i live in abbotsford, like an hour out of vancouver, we've got canadian tire, lordco and all those, but im just wondering what size to get, like do i get just a replacement one for the stock one? or what, when i tell them what i want they always say they need part numbers, or if i knew the measurements then i could find it taht way. also ive heard k&n set off sensors with the oil, is that not true with just the filter?

the filter i got comes pre-oiled and has an adjustable neck by using different inserts. if you do a search in the how to guide department, you can see in one of the pics, the packaging for the filter.

Has anybody tried the direct replacement filter from KNN. It makes sense that the conical one would have better flow and horsepower, but I'm also interested in the sound. I want to hear that supercharger spool up. Could somebody post a vid so we can hear what the drop in filter sounds like

thanks
