Air To Liquid Intercooler For S/C

The one above is for an M90. We need a manufacture to make this for our M62. The only problem I can think of is clearance. But it says it gives a 35-40HP increase, and on our engines, that would be a lot, but the M90 moves much more air so the same design would probably give us better results. It works so well because it cools it after it comes out of the supercharger, not before. Just figured I'd throw it out there so we can start harassing some companies to start producting them

Yeah I heard that, but there's no reservoir that I've found. So I think someone lied to us. Either that or its a solid state (no moving liquid) intercooler - and those are proven to be crap unless you fill it with a chemical that is resistant to heat.....

Trust me we have an air to water intercooler.
I have seen it in person, including the I/C cores inside the intake manifold. It's not like the picture you posted. The liquid resovior filler neck is right in front of the supercharger , you can miss it.
There isn't a big overflow tank like for the engine coolant if thats what your looking for.
So we do have one.... well it would work better if it had a bigger overflow tank because it gives the water longer to cool down the circulatory system Plus we could add ice to the tank for maximum cooling =D I guess when I take my S/C off for the pulley and piggy back system I'll be looking to add a fat overflow tank where the airbox on the 2.2L setup is......
the thrasher IC is the best in the market..... if you want to pay double as you would an IC one step down.
ZZPerformance sells an IC that cools ALMOST as efficently as the thrasher but for $1200. I believe they said something to the effect of 70* difference in temps.
An upgraded IC may be a moot point if the SC is going to be maxxed out soon. With with 2.8 pulley kit coming out, and seems to not be getting any knock, then add headers, catback, cams (whenever they come out) and everything, an upgraded IC is probably not going to be needed. Unless of course someone swapped in an m90.
If i bought a cobalt SS, that is the first thing i wouldve done. Swap in a m90. God that would be so sweet!

I can't see putting on an extra coolant tank for the intercooler and/or an ice chamber as a bad idea
But you have to realize that an overflow tank doesn't actually contain any liquid thats circulated by the system their sole purpose is to catch liquid thats boiled over...I think maybe getting another set of I/C cores and running the coolant through those in a box of ice might be cool.
I'm going to use an overflow tank but not design the system as such. Should of used the word reservoir instead of overflow, its always going to be full of water instead of when it just boils over... Sorry for the confusion.

If you want to increase efficiency then remove the coolant they use for the ic system fill it with water and 1 bottle water wetter like I did
more efficient heat transfer than the coolant and it drops it the most temp
BTW, dont forget to bleed the system there is a bleed screw on top of the ic heat exchanger

I take it an M90 would exactly just bolt up in place of the M62 (provided there was enough room)?

no, they have different bolt patterns and an adaptor plate would need to be made. And probably a TB adaptor plate also.
I measured the coolant temp a little while ago, and found that it was only about 10-15 degrees C above ambient temp. That means there's not much gain to be had in replacing the radiator, or increasing the coolant capacity, since the stock radiator is apparently able to do quite a good job.
If you want to upgrade the charge cooling system, you should be looking at upgrading the heat exchanger in the manifold, since that seems to be the "bottleneck" of the current system.

FINALLY, a cobalt owner interested in a m90 swap. if only there was a cobalt owner in south texas, as i have an m90 just sitting in my trunk. We could take it off and compare it and see what would need to be changed...
Anyone in the Austin/ San Antonio area? I go to san marcos for school and can go to either place.
