For all of you without G85 Package...

I am in market for an 06-07 Cobalt SS S/C, but I notice alot of them dont have the Recaro/LSD package(all the yellow ones do but i dont want one of those lol). So my question is would I make the mistake if I bought one without the G85 package? Do you find that you lose alot of performance because of traction problems? Do you regret not buying one with the G85 package? Thanks for the input and I hope your all truthful because this will greatly help me with my decision on my purchase.

i dont think LSD is that big of a deal, i dont experience wheel hop at all...the recaros are nice, the way they wrap around you, but i think the other, leather seats look nicer. i dont regret not buying G85 at all. by the way i dont think 07 had the g85 package. you could just get options of the LSD recaros and what not

So have any of you driven one with an LSD? Do you notice the performance difference? Is it big?

I have an 06 with g85, and love the seats!! You will regret it if you had the chance to get them and didnt. They hold you in the seat sooo much better. Dont get me wrong, I like the stock seats, but I cant stand sitting in them, cause im used to my Recaro's.

The LSD is cool. Especially in the winter, or rain. Its like trippin on acid...

The only performance difference is when one wheel sits and spins on a car without LSD while the LSD car pulls away.

My SS/SC didn't have LSD and:
Would easily spin one tire leaving a stop light or sign, especially in the wet.
Usually spin one tire going up freeway on ramps, especially in the wet.
Usually spin one tire out of a slow corner if I was hard on the gas.

If you are going to autoX or have a heavy foot, you probably want the LSD. And with an '06, I much prefer the Recaro seats too.

I checked into getting the LSD unit for my car and the best price I could find was $900 plus installation. Probably about $14-1500 if you can't install it yourself, so it is way cheaper to buy a car with it than try to add it later.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider getting my next one without the LSD. But I want the 260 lb/ft LNF SS/T anyway.

Just my opinion, your reality may differ.

whoever says that a LSD doesnt help in straight line traction is full of it.

the most traction you will ever get, is if both tires are spinning equally.. that way one isnt getting more power than the other.... they are both getting the same power, neither one having the disadvantage.

dont let anyone tell you otherwise. I love the nice straight launches i get

If your going straight line you dont need it. If you want to auto cross and **** like that then make sure you get it.

True.. it helps more when you are auto-Xing..

but EVEN power = best traction.

So from what you guys are all saying your making it seem like the LSD is huge.... The little bit extra money to get one with the LSD isnt the problem its finding one i like(colour, sunroof)with it...

Like I said lots of the yellow ones with the G85 package but I was looking for the Coppertone Orange and Black first...now I've been looking for my through auto trader, would me just going to a GM used vehicle lot and telling them I want an SS S/C with certain options gain me better results? Do they have a much higher inventory than wuts on auto trader, or will they be looking for them through other retailers just like I am doing?

Without LSD, mine will spin the doors off both tires going straight as long as there is no movement in the steering wheel. Once it turns to either side, one wheel will spin, usually the driver.

My first SS/SC did not have G85 (I had it 4 days), I thought it got pretty good traction... didn't seem too bad around turns.... yeah, right. LSD is a world of difference, especially in anything not *perfectly* straight. Our cars have enough torque, and FWD, we need all the help on traction we can get.

As for the seats, my bro just picked up a 07 with LSD, but no recaros. I can't stand his seats, they suck, they're terrible, they're awful (they're the second best seats I've ever sat in :-/). Guess I'm spoiled .

I got lucky, I got a black SS/SC, then 4 days later I was at my dealership and they had *another* black SS/SC, but with G85, I test drove it, realised the difference, talked them into letting me do a 4 day buyback, and opted for a car with 15k more miles so I could get the g85. Its that much of a difference.

My car didnt have the LSD tranny and then I swapped tranny's with someone who had the LSD tranny and YES there is a difference out of the hole. But it also comes down to driver as well. Just because you have limited slip doesnt mean that your going to beat a non-G85 out of the hole if you dont know how to drive it. But if you can launch it, then the non-G85 is in trouble. Trust me.

well, I say the lsd doesn't help this car in a straight line. it has equal length half shafts. BOTH of my tires grip/spin whatever you wanna call it. i don't do a one wheel wonder unless I'm in a curve, and that is rare. I have yet to have another cobalt outlaunch me yet anyways, g85 or not. I even have a buddy with a g85 with 17" wheels and drag radials, I'm on stock wheels and tires, and I beat him outta the hole.

Get as many options as you can afford as they are always cheaper up front than to add them later. (Its like buying a big screen tv, go as big as you can afford, never regret it) G85 is worth it, although unavailable on the 2.4, I wish it was..... You need to tell the dealer what you want and have them locate one, used to sell cars for GM and they will locate one within 500 miles, after that you need to order one.

Not completely true, a month or two of 07's were built with the Recaros. Pretty hard to find though.

On topic, I wouldn't own a non-G85 peg leg car myself. For $795 on the sticker price it was a no-brainer.

Off the line it's a wash.. If you spin a ton you won't torque steer and you'll get off the line a bit quicker with it. But you shouldn't be spinning that hard anyway.

During cornering it's huge, the inside wheel is so easy to break loose as I've seen Hondubs do it. It's a great feeling to have your car yank you through a turn while you're giving heavy throttle.

And of course Canadian winters. I can't wait to have both wheels plowing by all the open diff cars stuck in the snow.

Also, the Quaife LSD is incredibly strong, so you won't be popping transmissions with increased power levels. Also the torque is more evenly distributed between the two axles, which should theoretically prevent them from breaking so easily, but hell g85 guys are snapping them like toothpicks anyways.

I don't have the G85 package and sometimes wish I did, I spin my tires alot and sometimes it will pull to the right. If the road is wet and I accelerate a little too briskley....spin...., plus it's hard to feel the road with this electronic steering. It took a while for me to get used to.

IMO get the LSD if you can.
