aluminum air dam
aluminum air dam
chalk another part on my list of mods. Just put down my order for the jbp air dam. i'll let ya'll know how it turns out when i get it in. they promised it would cool down the engine and aftercooler significantly.
Does the Cobalt not have one form the factory? My car has one thats about 3" tall, it is black plastic. Thats what scrapes when you go over a bump most of the time.
It would be pretty easy to build a larger one out of some sheet metal or aluminum though.

scraping or not, im hoping that it'll keep the engine cooler during the hot summer months. right now I dont need it, but flying down the highway i want all the air on my supercharger as possible.

It's supposed to cool the motor, if you took it off (In Theory) You would run warmer. I say in theory because I haven't tried it, nor have I seen any proof, but if it's on there from the factory, I would say it serves a purpose.

i did that too, i didnt see any reduction in temps. it was steady around 86-87C. this one should keep it cooler though.

Man, the stock air dam SUCKS! I was on my way home from my buddy's and a possum ran out in front of me, knocked off the driver side by poping out the clip. Now everytime I scrape (or that one time I ran over an already dead deer when it was foggy) it's pops off that side again. The dealer says it all looks fine. No cracks......Weird. I might get the aluminum one just to fight back against the darn vermin.

i took the air dam off my iroc z cuz it scraped like hell everywhere, with summer driving in az the car got freakin hot, went and read some posts on an iroc forum found out what the airdam does put it back on, no problem after that, so why not just leave it on, it doesnt hurt anything being there plus u cant really see it. and as for the aluminum one id try to find a stock plastic one, they're right, one scrape and there goes ur dam all bent up
ok boys, me, paul and andrew installed the air dam this morning in the freaking COLD.
then we all stood back and took a look at it. it looks ******* amazing. the car has a lower appearance at the front and this jbp air dam looks like something serious is going on under there.
after we all got over the looks thing, i went for a solo run and backed it off the driveway. SCRAPE!! ... they started laughing and i started freaking. it hit a tiny bit. I have a very steep driveway. I got out and couldnt see any damage, so whatever. The next time I angled the car and there was no scrape, just have to let one wheel hit the street at a time.
ok, so testing... basically I let her hit operating temperature. (85-87C) then I took her on the 401 (the highway up here for you yanks). Are ya'll sitting down?... The temperature dropped to 76C!!!! at a constant speed of 95km/h. and stayed there. This thing is a fridge. Then I gave her a little and temperature raised to about 78-79C, then I coasted off the off ramp and temperature dropped to 75C with no load, and stayed there. it works to keep things cold, just have to watch the driveways. as for the handling, i didnt really try anything fancy, but it was quieter on the highway. i got my money's worth, cooler air!
