Angry ANTOHER: First time at the track.

Well it is that time of year, and we will start seeing about a 100 of these threads a day pop up, so heres mine. Well since I have bought the car this is the first chance to make it to the track and I was not to happy. The elevation is around 3000 ft and I ran a 14.7 at 98mph with a 2.5 60' time. The wheel hop seems to be unmanageable even with the TTR engine mount. With the four runs that I was able to make I just couldn't find my groove of improvement. First gear as said before by many others just seems like a waste of time. I tried leaving at 2000-3000 rpm and no revving at all and nothing seemed to help. I have been around the drag strip my entire life and running for at least the last 15 years, so I am pretty seasoned and know with some more runs with this car I will get better but it is just frustrating. After first gear the car pulls like crazy so I know if I can get some traction I will be in the low 14's to high 13's(before my stage 2 arrives) in no time. I think the tranny mounts will be the savior to the wheel-hop blues. Any input?

Tranny mounts and my ETD... and I still had wheel hop on 1 run. Get the INTENSE solid tranny mounts WITH the Control Arm Bushings. That should do you some real good. I just need some new damn tires and some practice on the track. The key is to ease the throttle in. I launch at like 1500 rpm... easing the throttle in... I go to half throttle and then ease it up to full throttle... works descent for me ON THE STREET! Funny how my first time EVER down a drag strip has been my best time - 14.056 @ 104 w/ 2.5 60'... i actually bogged it down on the launch because I let the clutch out too quick... but I still beat the SRT-4!!! High Five!

Thats not bad for your first time. No one needs to give you adivce because your right on the money. You posted a few very truthful facts. Traction and better 60 foot times bro. Practice makes perfect. BTW, I would not launch at that high of rpm. Lower that a bit to around 1500 is much better. Just IMO. I ran 14.2 stock. That was with a 2.3 60 foot time and I hit 100mph trap. Check out the offical 1/4th mile time thread. Think about it, if you had a 2.5 60 foot, knock off 2 tenths and that will gain you 4 tenths by the end. 14.7 - .4 = 14.3 bro

The car feels like a plus level 13 sec car easy. I could handle all the wheel spin you can throw at me, but that damn wheel hop is one evil BITCH! I probably could of dropped a tenth if I would of washed some of my dirt off the car alone. lol

I have the TTR engine mount, and CA poly trans mounts in billet housings and I get no hop at all. Im going to the track the 30th at new england dragway and im going to try launching at different rpms to see what works best for me. i heard something about shifting at 5g in 1st gear and then bring it up to redline the next few gears?

I'm still new to all of this modifying or cars and such..but has anyone on here who curses the wheel hop of a ss/sc taken into consideration that the traction problem you all are having is because the tires are not (for lack or a better term) "Drag strip" compatible?

My neighbour has an old muscle car (dodge charger, dont rememebr what year) but he takes it to tracks sometimes. He says that by putting on a "soft" tire compared to a regular tire during his runs tha he save about 4 seconds.

4000-6500 rpm are the only good things about first gear, so I am not sure if that would help or not.

I am sure every one is aware of that, but most people are running stock tires and our axles might not come out so good with drag radials. After I shred all the rubber off the stock tires I plan on getting some better more softer tires, but not so soft that I am replacing them every ten thousand miles or so. With my job I move to much and don't have room for an entire set of track tires and rims, if I did that is what I defiantly would do. The stock rims alone are so heavy that if you get after market rims(some not all) will greatly give you less rotating mass and give you a tenth or so back on your ET. I plan on in the future when I have more room in my travels or settle down some where getting some 16's for the track with some nice soft tires wrapped around them such as drag radial on the fronts and a smaller width cheapo tire on the rears.

How many people have broken axles on a stock car at the track?
