any advice in launching

hey people whats up?
my younger brother has a 05 ss s/c black
and he keeps complaining to me about how he is always having a hard time launching the car from a dig
he says no matter what he does he spins the tires
i think he needs a little more driving experience but who knowss,,
does anyone have any advice on how to launch the car in a racing manner>
i also read up on how the cobalts ss s/c has some trouble of the line its a common problem
anyone have any advice?

ooo. this is a VERY good topic. will find some great input here.

i have an Ingall's torque dampener.... pass the info that wheel hop is GONE after installing this (20 mins).

i launch at higher RPM's now than i used to stock. about 3,300rpm and some feathering of the throttle. u can get the tires to grab with the added feel of a torque dampener or engine mounts. u CANNOT floor the car in first without breaking loose. just practice and get a good system down. i have not had my car to a track for numbers yet, but i can get consistant racing launches with decent results.

P.S. I just raced my **** talking friend in his STi that he has owned for 2 weeks (granted he is the worst driver i know), but i was dead even with him on launch, and then rocked him after shifting into second. (again, he can barely drive a stick and bought the car after he rode in my STi)

roll off of the clutch around 1700, do not mash the throttle, wait for it too bite and then get on the throttle and he will be fine

i used to do the same thing around 2,000rpm.... still need to get to a track to compare which is faster.

either way, i forgot to mention that u need to roll off of the clutch and roll onto the throttle.
a 3,000rpm launch will def rip up a stock clutch faster tho.

I'v gotten 2.2 60' times launching from idle. You just need to get the gas and clutch exactly perfect, but you can launch HARD with no tire spin what so ever! I figured this out last time I went to the track.

im quoting the info i gave to someone else with a similar question.

power loss? noooooo

you are putting more power to the wheels due to less engine torque.
think of it this way: when the engine is moving, hp is being wasted due to torque/engine movement. putting that power more directly to the wheels will yeild greater results.

hope that helps bro
to answer your question more specifically, the wheel hop is reduced because the engine does not have as free movent as with stock mounts. the wheels are held more firmly to the ground and torque is not distributed up and down.

it costs $169USD thru Turbo Tech, including shipping

if you cant affored the torque dampener, take some permatex gasket sealer, red, squirt it into all the spaces in the mount and let it dry. stopped 90 % of my wheel hop...

wow.... u should post this up in a topic

..... that is very interesting. i would prefer a torque dampner for proven performance gains and looks......... but i cant agrue with ur method. seems it would work "almost" as well.

I say "almost" because i tightened the brackets on my Ingalls VERRRRY tite and i don't see sealer matching that stiffness.

I used to have launching issues but know ive got it down. It takes a lot of practice but it launches hard for what it is.

I stop (Staging or at a light)
Shift through a few gears, 1-2-3-2-1
Pop the gas just ever so slightly (The engine revs past 3k and then settles down but not before a slight moment (2 sec.) of staying at 2k.
While at 2k I roll off the clutch and give it some (Considerable amount) of gas. Like taking off at a light, watch the boost in first, dont let it get over 6-7 psi or you'll break lose.
At 4.5-5k I floor the biotch and slam 2nd around 6500.
From there its all fast/clean shifts until its done.

Thats what works for me.

Since you spin the tires out anyways, it seems that reving up and dropping the clutch and keeping the tires spinning at 4k rpm gets an alright start. Once it grabs at 4k, i mash the pedal down until as close as 7k i can get before the rev limiter hits since i have a stage 2, the power shift into second well enough to chirp or squeal tire.

You can always try different methods to see which one works best for your car.

Also, I do find that the TorqueForward torque braces have eliminated 90 percent of my wheel hop. Most i get is a smalll jerk up from breaking loose, but the rest is good hopless spin.

lol. *vibration will depend upon tightness. i dont believe that tightening the damper will result in a significant amount of vibration.

btw, my personal opinion is that i want more vibration, noise, and feel from an ED... i just have not messed around with the stock setting on my Ingalls as of yet

from what I understand its just a matter of taking a couple bolts off the motor mounts, putting the brackets on and bolting it back up.
