Anyone else have P0171?

So the dealer installed my Stage 2 August last year and I have an Injen intake on it also. And anytime the temperature goes below 40 degrees I get the P0171 code which is "System Too Lean" So I brought it to the dealer many times they tried to fix it, replacing the MAF sensor and updated the CPU. Basically they gave up. The car runs fine, but I hear from everyone else Stage 2 makes it run rich. Any Ideas? I would think it would be the intake but I don't see anyone with my problem. Im going to Dyno my car in May so it should be warm enough to not give me an issue with false readings cause of a CEL.

to save you some time, delete the code and call it a day. nothing needs to be done.

Ill clear it with my Interceptor gauge and it comes back in 2 seconds. Is it limiting any of my power when its on? Cause when I clear it I hear a change in the way the motor sounds.

the change is in your head, there's no difference because of the code, and no it's not limiting power. follow the link i posted, anything you could ever want to know about that code is posted.

I have had the same code ever since I did the airbox mod, I have had it deleted at work 5 or 6 times and it always comes back a few days later. It is really not much to worry about.

find someone with HPTuners and have them raise your MAF fail frequency. That is why it's throwing that code. Mine did that with the k&n intake before I had my car professionally tuned at New Era Performance.

End thread.....

actually no it's not. if you don't know the real reason why it is being thrown. don't tell the general population a lie.

I am by all means not calling you out, but I am curious as to why the car is throwing P0171

it is thrown because of the ltft trims are out of wack. it is over 18.0 +/- ltft for an extended period of time.

p0171 = lean bank 1
p0172 = lean bank two

171 = postive fuel trims.
172 = negative fuel trims.

postive = adding fuel.
negative = removing fuel.
not because of the maf fail frequency.

actually it can, to a degree.

A tune would take car of it. You ECM is having to add way more fuel than expected, so it thinks that there is a probelm.

I have been throwing p0172 after being tuned and when I looked it up/got Advanced autoparts to scan it it said p0172 is rich on bank 1, does this mean the same as lean on bank two?

And could turning off the rear 02 sensor cause it as well?

I will say that I am happy that I was right when I guessed the LTFT...I am completely new to tuning and really don't have the faintest of ideas where to look to educate myself Area.

I saw your post in the 'this place is going to hell' thread...and agree and have fallen into the 'someone said it on ss.net therefor it is true'...something needs to be done, but kinda can't be...

you don't have a bank two.

the rear 02 has nothing to do with ltft. to my knowledge. there is a lot of hidden tables we don't have access too. so, it may or may not.

So in a nutshell...you are saying p0172 shouldn't be thrown?
