Anyone have the GM Stage 3 kit??

I was thinking about saying screw the 2.6" pulley and getting the GM stage 3 kit. Does anyone know if the 8k redline on it would make a huge difference? Is it GM warranteed? Would it even come close to a 2.6", or is it a waste of $$?

DO NOT GO TO 8K WITH STOCK VALVE TRAIN. and yes stg III voids your warranty.

Stage 3 has a parts warranty but does not sustain the factory powertrain warranty. The valves float at 7400 rpm so 8k is a no-no. And you wont get the torque you would get with a 2.6".

arsenal21, I was wondering the same thing. I have been gone from ss.net for a few months, and don't remember much about what was said when I did hear about it. But I'd like some info on it. I was wondering myself about STG3

I was running the stage III PCM pretty cool features... HOM, and the rev limiter control was pretty cool. It would be a nice setup though for all factory parts and just add the 50 shot of the gas... and it should be fun as hell

He's right on, its a neat little PCM

I used the stage 3 pcm with 60 lb injectors and a 2.7 without issue.
I might try it with a 2.5 and see what happens.

What were your A/F numbers looking like with the S3pcm/2.7" ?

Any idle issues, bogging, anything at all or did it run great?

Thanks

I thought the stage 3 PCM is calibrated for 42# injectors? If you ran it with 60s wouldn't it run uber right and throw everything out of wack?

I ran it with 60's and a 2.55 pulley., but it ran so rich it killed my plugs in 3 days.. AFR went below 10.0:1 under throttle... I thought I blew my motor at one point, but it was sooo rich it just killed the plugs.

it did idle fine though and ran good, cept at anything over 50% throttle, but it was bogging out wich was odd

Yeah me too. Running it with 60's sounds like a nono. So word is the PCM is locked huh? What a bummer I was really hoping to rewrite the OS to take those changes for the 100 octane mode, etc.

And I know some of you say valves float at 7,400rpm's: although each car is a little different I do not recommend setting the Rev limiter above 7150 rpms, but to each their own.

If you take the stock Stage 3 and set rev limiter to 8k it will own you faster than you can say wetnakedbluebannana

That is intended for those that use the Upgraded Valvetrain that CAN rev to 8k, but should be maxed at 7500rpms.

ok, I've been pretty interested in the stage 3 pcm as well, just haven't looked to hard into it since I didn't own a balt, but now that I do, I'm REALLY interested. So what performance valve train is there out there for us to us the 8K rpm redline?

The owner of a local race shop around here played around with HpTuners and his wife's ss/sc. Set the limit to 8300 rpm, never heard if the new engine has come in yet or not...

that might be why he's waiting on the new engine.

It wasn't bad, it ran and the plugs looked fine. I was more curious than anything.

I usually set mine below 7400 so I make sure I don't hit the limiter. On cars I tune, I go to 7200 on the high end.

Looks like it... Stage 3 isn't really all that useful in itself... you're better off just running a 2.9.
