Anyone install a EGT (Pyrometer) yet?
Anyone install a EGT (Pyrometer) yet?
Hey guys,
with all this speculation of whats going on w/number 4, i'm going to go ahead and installed an egt gauge on number 4. Will install the bungs on all the tubes, so i can change it around to see if its getting hotter etc. But I never installed one on my s/c cavy, so its new to me. First hurdle is to get a 0-2000 or 0-1600 sweet cobalt gauge. When i get a chance (little guy goes down for a nap) ill try to research what kind of exh. temps ranges to expect.
But any input would be great. Also planning on sticking a mech. fuel pressure gauge to the end of the fuel rail, so when 60s go in, i can see if there really is a drop.

I have one and it gets up just above 1400*f on hard pulls it is mounted in the header about 3-4" from the head.I don't know how accurate it is cause when I shoot the header with an i/r temp gun it was reading 300*f less.I have another pyro I am going to try I just don't have any time right now to install it. I have the cobalt 0-1600 cobalt gauge and there is no ouput for logging.

actually its totally possible to run it into Hp tuners, its done the same way as wideband as long as your EGT is based on a 5v signal which many are not , as far as temps, no idea i need do some research on it
im pretty sure though anything above 1600 isnt good

It is based on a milivolt signal from the pyro sensor. The gauge I got had a 1/8 pipe fitting and a tapered fitting that you can clamp on. I uset the tapered fitting and welded it to the # 4 primary pipe. Then there is a hole in the center where the probe goes through with a set screw.Kinda cheesy the old ones had an actual threaded pyro sensor. The temp output of the probe changed quite a bit depending on how deep i put it in the pipe so I tried to center it somewhat.
Alright, since you all have had experience with this, I'm just gonna ask here and not start a new thread.
I'm going turbo, and I'm gonna be ordering a EGT gauge soon. Now most I've found so far are 0-1600, but I've found a few from 0-2000. I know that anything over 1600 is not good at all, but what do you think would be the more reasonable one to get?

You can get this very accurate wideband air fuel meter and it can also log the EGT with a pyrometer, that's the one I've just ordered a couple of days ago :
