Anyone who has a B&M shifter for a SS , it is a fake .
Anyone who has a B&M shifter for a SS , it is a fake .
Im starting to see people with SS's saying they got a B&M shifter . As well as people advertising a B&M specific to the SS on ebay . I was leary because no one selling them could give me a actual part # . Put a call in to B&M today , and they told me their shifter for the SS 2.0 has definately not been released , they couldnt even give me a target date for it .
So if u guys are seeing B&M's for the SS , they may work ....but they are not actual B&M shifters , they are knock offs by people scammin the name .
Thought I would share .

I was going to make a comment, but I will be waiting to see what develops out of this.
I have the shifter in question, and this makes me wonder.
Frank, is your supplier B&M, or is it Gravana?
BTW someone "talked" to someone at K&N about the CAI and the K&N person said it would be $385....but as it turned out, it was more like $245.....maybe you didn't speak to a very knowledgable person.??
Oh, and the one I have works beautifully. Also, when you start a thread, I wouldn't go off trying to state things as fact. Let people do some more investigating before you make accusations.
I checked the website and there is no shifter listed for the Cobalt.
However, I did find this one which looks a lot like the one sold for the Cobalt.

The shifter part # is 45187 for the Cobalt SS.
B&M racing doesn't have their site updated at all for the product listings. They still list several shifters that are no longer made, and don't have all the new shifters listed yet as well.
We carry the short shifter for the SS.

I got the shifter from Gravana and seeing as how their distributor is B & M and Gravana is located right around the corner from them, I would tend to believe it's real. I have the B & M box with a real part # so I'm not sure where you got this info from. I spoke with B & M before I ordered the shifter 2 weeks ago and sure enough the part exists.
Maybe their just selling the shortshifter for the regular cobalt and since they also fir the SS they just selling it for the SS and BM is actually making one specifically for the SS.
COuld this be possible?

fake edit: That is all
I really don't think its a fake edit!
So the install pics are all BS as well? It clearly shows the interior of a Redline with the original Short Throw being replaced, the same shifter that is in our SS.
If this was intended for the normal ion/cobalt, I would think the install pics would be of that car. Then if they wanted to edit the instructions header/box to read Redline/SS, fine.
You are trying to say they faked the box, install instructions, and all install pics?
Maybe, but I just can't believe that.

fake edit: not even a ninja
I dont know what to tell you guys, who ever says its fake by all means think its fake. I picked up these shifters from B&M the FIRST day they were ready to be shipped out to people. I drove to B&M my self and picked up my order. B&M might not list it on there website as of yet because they are such a big company that sometimes you miss the small things like updating your website on a daily bases. I have sold over 30 of these shifters already, they will only work on the 2.0L SS and Ion Redline ONLY!
Hope this clears a few things up for people . . . .

Well my bad then . I just kinda figured a technical rep I actually spoke with at B&M said the SS shifter had not been released might know what he was talking about . Guess its just another case of a company with ill informed employees ....unfortunately its rather common in the automotive aftermarket industry

I had never even changed my own oil before putting my shifter in, and I found it to be light-medium difficulty. Very happy that I was able to do it myself. I will try doing most of my own mods, so I can learn more about my car.
Just make sure you have all of the right tools.
They include. 7mm & 13mm socket, torx screwdriver (not sure what size, but it is small), socket extender, flathead screwdriver, black permenant marker (to mark where the clips on the cable were before coming off), towel (to wipe the sweat away)
Everything else is in the box, and I also recommend going with the TWM Shifter intructions ,linked in the How-To section, for the first part. It is better at explaining how to get the center console out. Then use the B&M instructions for the rest of the project.
Someone correct me if any of this is wrong.
It's about a 45 min job, you shouldn't have to remove the console side panels either. The shifter assembly will come right out with just removing the top part of the console. Take your time and use a screwdriver to pop off the stock knob and the rest is a piece of cake.
