ATI super damper (over-drive)

Those of you that have installed an ATI OD harmonic balancer did you have to do any machining to your front cover as ZZP indicates on their website? If so, how much did you really have to machine off for proper clearance?

Any other difficulties in installing the ATI? What kind of tool did you use to press it on?

You know of a picture or anything that would show me how much material actually needs to be machines off? If at all possible I would like to just modify my stock front cover plate myself.

I googled it as the dick head above suggested and it doesn't look like taking that little bit of material off will be too difficult. I didn't know my questions came off as me being incompetent, I just like to cover all my bases before I get into something. Trying to see what people have done and how they did it. I guess I should just keep my mouth shut and take the easy road because I don't know everything there is to know about this subject already.

I'm sure I asked some stupid questions before I built my engine but I got through that just fine. I'm learning as I go here.

the issue is that ********* don't realize that if you take off too much material, it will crack under oil pressure. It's a lot easier to over-do it up than you think.

I hear you and thanks for the helpful information. I think as long as I take off the bare minimum and not create any stress risers I should be alright. The main thing with these kinds of projects is not to get in a hurry, take my time, and do it right.

Now I just can't decide is while I have that cover off if I should just go ahead and do a balance shaft delete, install neutral balance shafts or just leave it stock and try to limit my time in the upper RPM range.

I clearanced mine myself with an air tool and bit. Just took off a little bit at a time until it was good. As for putting it on I just stuck a heat gun in the shaft for a bout 5 min and it slid right on.

I went the zzp route for 100 bux it was like 'meh whatever'

more important as you may or may not have read is to machine the crank for a bigger keyway, so that you don't risk shearing the keyway off and being in big trouble.

It's a little higher priced than that now. I need to save more to help pay for that pricey ATI.

Now onto the keyway. Are you saying the ATI comes with a bigger keyway than stock? Or are you saying I need to get both the crank shaft and the new ATI pulley machined to accept a bigger keyway so that it can handle more torque? I haven't seen anything about this yet.

I don't remember from when I changed the timing chain for sure but would that require machining on the crank shaft or do I just need to get longer keyway stock?

You would have to get the crank machined

Dammit. That would require taking out the entire crank too I would assume. What a PITA.

How about the new fluidamper, does it require all that hassle? I had one on my old sbc and it was a good damper. I know pwerks sells them.

Does anyone know where I can find torque specs for installing all of the LSJ belt driven components? My car has L61 but I am swapping over to LSJ belt routing.

Thanks. I found a link to LSJ build book chapters 1-6.

For some reason cobaltss.net won't let me link to red!ineforums.com. http://www.(TYPE IN red!ineforums).com/forums/performance-modifications/46184-gm-build-books-pdfs.html
