axle back exhaust gains?
axle back exhaust gains?
So i was wondering if I would recieve the same gains from just replacing the exhaust pipe from the axle back with 2.5inch piping and then go with a magnaflow muffler instead of getting a catback? Somebody told me that we do have 2.5inch piping up until the axle. Is that true? If that is, what would be the purpose of replacing the whole exhaust system with new 2.5inch piping??
what your looking to do is exactly what i have done to my car. i honestly think my car sounds really good and i could really feel a gain in power from it. unfortunately i dont know the exact gains but it was noticeable. the reason people just replace the entire cat-back is because its about the same price (unless your the one doing the welding) as getting a custom axle back installed at a muffler shop. but if that's what you really want to do, i would suggest checking these out....

I figure im just going to replace the axle part for now. I mean pipe is pipe. I dont see why I would change out the rest of the exhaust system just to have new pipe if its 2.5in already. Thanks for the info on ottp tho.
i think they change the cat-back is for the reason being you can remove the resonator... or have it replaced. i know when i got a cat-back built for my old car. they asked me what kind of reasonater or however you spell it. and i was like hah dont even put one on. i just had a pipe and muffler put on. SOB was loud. i loved it.
yes you will not OMG this is a crazy difference. but the same as you would as opposed to a cat-back... the difference between each cat-back is sound... which i dont understand why some cost even over 400 bucks...
the stock exhaust piping isn't all that great, in some of the bends the pipe gets kinked which restricts exhaust flow, IMO.... the only bad stock piping is the part that goes over the rear axle, it gets really kinked there. that's why i suggested doing that over the axle 2.5" piping because its mandrel bent and really smooth as opposed to the kinked up/restrictive stock piping
i think the axle back w/ magnaflow muffler and stock tip sounds awesome. i think in a different thread rally mentioned even at cruising speed it's quiet and does not even drown out the music. thats pretty good.

The only problems are in the dp and over axle.
i bet it does and i agree that those are the only problems with the stock exhaust. if i were to do a "make shift" exhaust.... i'd do a pace setter header, get the CTI axle over piping & axle back from OTTP and then take it all to an exhaust shop, and while i'm there have them delete the cat.
I just got back from the muffler shop that I go to and told him what I wanted done and everything and he quoted me $400. I was thinking are you crazy! I think I am going to go with the pacesetter catback instead. That way I can install it myself and its onsale!
there you go man.... yea muffler shops can be highly expensive. one of the major reasons most people just go with a manufactured cat-back.
wow i was quoted 95-105 for the axle back aluminized steel and told them i'd bring my muffler and use my old tip. lol i would of been like HAH i can get it done for 120 bucks elsewhere and thats with a tip to the technician
