Bad Mab Header Terrible Weld!

After I grind some of the welding down. It look like this.

I wasn't happy with it when I got them. It wasn't his fault he didn't know how bad was the welding. I told him about it, he was surprised. I did contact Bad Mab and they told me can't do anything about it cause I am not the buyer from them. But look at their job as a welder! Terrible! If they want to sell something as a seller. They need to do their job right as an American, we don't want American worker look like a fool. I know China do sell their header off from Ebay. Why does Bad Mab have to do that ? They need to do better than that.

Who cares about English. It's not engrish. This is a forum, it's not school.

I had to use my dremel tool to do the grinding. It took me about half an hour to do that.

My weapon-r header had worse welds than that. Those are pretty compared to most any other header that i've seen actually. But i agree, i always like to clean up those crappy welds before installing, its just that much better.

Yeah, I had problems with BadMab as well.....A LOT of Issues I might Add, Long story short I purchased a new header from them and the one they sent me was Warped Brad then sent me another one and that one was even worse, I had to take it to a machine shop to get the flanges machined flat.

Bad Mab header is a good bang for the buck no question. But as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

so it wasn't polished up to your standards???

its a header, not a show piece. if it seals, it functions, no matter how bad it looks.

Those welds look fine.

The amazing idea to "clean up the welds" makes me think you have not a sniff of knowledge about welding.

Taking a grinder to it - OBVIOUSLY instantly voids your warranty unless your brain dead

Also the while the patriotic talk about build quality is OK. Making yourself sound like china-man really is counter intuitive to the point your trying to make.

Please in some moderately intelligent way explain how what you did to that header to make it better in regards to:

A. Functionality
B. Looks

Honestly I hope this thread gets locked.

Those welds don't look exactly "fine". Sloppy as hell, and occluding the exhaust path in more than one location. I'd also argue that the weld *********** is a little soft in a couple spots. Any worse, and I would swear that I did them! Seriously, flow down the edge of the pipes is critical, and anything standing out interferes with the exhaust pulse. I wouldn't have ground/polished off the stuff on the face of the merge, but I'd certainly have cleaned up around each "rim" to get rid of that crap, and smoothed any area where heat risers would form. Clean up too much of that weld around the surface face of the merge, and you're only inviting cracking by removing good steel.

As for the looks department, you're spot on - its a bit nutty to polish the inside of your exhaust......

It's about workmanship. I am sure better welder out there can do way better than this.

DAMN! I was looking up for ZZP shorty header that ZZP used to sell them. They are WAY better than I had seen than any other shorty header right now. ZZP got it perfect, their header line up perfect, and HELL their weld is the best I had ever seen. Why ZZP stop making shorty header ? I would definitely buy from them right now. If they still have it.

Hmmm....

Never had a problem with my Badmab (nice welds & leak free).

On a side note.... My Badmab has nicer welds than my Pacesetter has on my Cavalier.

I think it's the luck of the draw when buying these.

Lots of people like them & lots hate them. Same with any other part for these cars.

my welds looked the same, i weld i know what its like to weld stuff like that and it can be hard. when welding stuff like this, your heat cant be up to high or else it will basically just melt the edges off, leave jagged edges and looks way worse, only way to correct this is to keep the heat at a lower level, but this also makes the weld stick up more. sometimes theres a good inbetween, but i feel those are gonna work and mine havent leaked or had any problems with mine.
