Best pulley with Stage 1

What is the best sized pulley (2.9?) to not run "rich" or "lean" as you all call it. I have no idea what those terms mean but...

2.8 - 3.0 seems to be a good range with the GM reflash and injectors.

Just need to find a smaller belt or bigger tensioner if you only have Stage 1.

IMO, go with the Billet Flow 2.9. I have one on now w/ no staging. They are, by far, the best looking pulleys and work great with the "non-slip" design.

I will be getting the stage 1 here in a few weeks though, then I'll probably go with a 2.7.

Get a 2.8 inch non slip with GM Stage 1, CAI, and Exhaust. Don't forget a belt tensioner.

So is a 2.7 billetflow a good choice with stage 1? Can anyone tell me what psi boost i will be getting with that?

if you have NO idea, then you should stay with the stock setup, or stick with what GM puts on.

Or learn what they mean, then go 2.7

Thanks for your help... Im sorry if I dont know everything and thats why i joined these forums. Thanks for making a post with absolutely no info. Other people actually take the time to answer questions instead of just posting useless garbage. BTW i do NOW know what they mean thanks to some helpful people.

You would be getting around 20 lbs of boost. I would have an interchangeable system with like a 2.7 and a 2.9 for daily driving. When you go to the track, use the 2.7, when you are just cruising around, put the 2.9 on.

However, if you really wanted the 2.7 for daily driving, you could always buy the maf translator from Intense to fine tune it and make it completely safe for daily driving because I don't think stage 1 and a 2.7 pulley will have that great of a a/f ratio. Who knows maybe it would.

Well, just remember, if you don't already know this. Don't go buying a 2.7" pulley if you don't machine down the snout first. You will not be able to apply the pulley until the housing has been snouted down. If you would like to do this yourself, you can always buy a ZZP Snout Machining tool -- I have one, it's only about $109 with shipping and everything. Great tool... It's not a must if you have interchangable pulleys, but having a MAF-T ($179.99 from Intense if you want..) will help you fine tune it. Good luck bro..

Stage 2 does, but I wana get a smaller one for more boost and I dont wana run too rich. GM is just trying to be extra safe, but I want more performance.

3.066" comes with the stage II kit. Stage II is just a pulley and belt along with everything in stage I. Guys have ran them on a mustang dyno and shown between 219hp-245hp at the wheels. (Depending on the dyno used).

(In very general terms)
lean-not enough fuel
rich-too much fuel

later,
Chris~

I am getting stage 2 in 4 weeks, and I was told a 45 HP gain would be made to the wheels, im not going to go playing with they pulleys though as my warrenty wouldn't like that. GM is going to install the stage 2 for me.

Informative post though, good to know in the future! thanks!

is the stage 2 calibration different then the stage 1? or would u be better off to get stage1 and a smaller pulley than in the stage2?

There are split opinions on it...Not many facts...However most facts lead to only 1 reflash (meaning they are the same). There are a couple of people on here with stage 1 with a 2.8 inch pulley with no problems....I know when I get my Stage 1 installed, i'm putting my 2.8 in as well. The part numbers are supposedly the same.

nobody is sure exactly. some have info that says it is, some have info that says it doesn't.

I purchased the stage 2, and a billetflow pully setup. I will run the 2.9 daily and the 2.7 for fun.

And you can fit a 2.7 on if you use a Billetflow system. anything smaller will need to be machined down.

I believe the 2.8 will fit from intense, anything smaller will need to be machined. But i am sure Rob will let us know.

Yes the stage 2 calibration is different from stage 1. I have seen both reflash printouts. Stage 2 includes transmission calibration and different air/fuel ratio because of the smaller pulley which isn't part of stage 1. If you want reliability, go with GM stage 2 and a tune when HP tunners is ready with the ss/sc box. I'm not saying you're going to blow your motor with a 2.7 but after years with that it will take it's tole. GM made their stage 2 the way they did for a reason. IMO!

i have seen this argued many times, though i have not been in the argument and tend to leave when i see people talk about this.. but i agree from common sence (motor knowledge)

they are or SHOULD be different flashes because the a/f charts can not be identical because of the difference in air flow between the two kits.. if they are the same flash then that is a no no imo so i would expect them to be 2 different flashes if gm has common sense AND warranty it
