big problems help help help

i was driving down the highway today in 4th gear and had a wide open lane so i figured i'd get on it so i down shifted into 3rd slamed the gas and at about 4500 to 5000 rpms the whole car like stoped like i redlined it the rpm guage fell to 0 but the car was still on and running but not very well it was chugging along...no CELs or anything at this point.. got off the highway almost came to a stop and car stalled.....so i popped the hood no sign of anything wrong tried to start it and wouldn't turn...tried again a couple mins later and it started and i drove it home with no problems ran fine right now i have it sitting in my driveway with the hood popped and the battery disconnected...what the hell just happened ????the rpm gauge worked on the way home and the clutch was still there????/

So it was at 4500 to 5000 AFTER or BEFORE you went into 3rd. I would assume after. That really doesn't seem that rediculously high in 3rd. If it went back to driving fine, you're probably alright. How does idle sound - rough or normal?

Was thinkinga bout that as a possibility too. A sensor freaked out and it shut itself down to protect the car.

Never had that problem but I think you should take it to the dealer or a mechanic to get it checked out. That is some crazy ****!!!!

My old one did that once before also, i downshifted into third and just slamed it, all gauges went down to zero, and the car was barely runing then shut up, but was fine after a minute, wierd.
