Blew my motor. Recycled or rebuild?

Ok so i actually blew my motor about 5 years ago while cruising down Hwy 2 heading to Calgary.

I've been busy building other projects so i havent had time to get around to my SS. I'm finally able to get the SS project back on the tracks.

My major concern is the fact i had purchased a used motor that had been torn down by the preiviouse owner and the crank hadnt been properly stored so i fear warpage issues as well as pitting in the cyclinder ways.

now the price of a brand new crank is closer to 2,000.00 CDN. Then add on the price of new sleeves and the shop labour. Plus new pistons(9.0:1 going turbo). Seals, bearings, balancing, bolts, etc.

where as i can pick up a used Long block for 1,500 CDN with roughly 57,XXXKM's on it. i would of course be doing the bottem end. new pistons, bearings and seals.

I'm interested to see what every one might think is the more logical route to be heading to get the car back onto the streets.

or to save yourself the trouble of doing anything at all but the drop, get zzp's long block, if you can afford it.. It would be the quickest and most reliable pain free route :p

Steel Crank $150 , K1 rods $425 , Weisco piston kit $500 GM bearings $80 Gaskets $150 Balance job $150 Assembly free if you do it . The prices are what you would pay if your getting a bit of a deal. Since Im a jobber I get very good prices on any engine parts.

steel crank? where did you get your price for the crank. my direct from GM was like stated near 2,000 CDN. which i found odd because i think she priced me out he billit race crank :s

yes i will be doing everything in house. I'm just trying to decide what route to take. I'm just hoping the cyclinder walls are ok.

i get dang near jobber prices as well. im a Tech for Ford and my room mate is a GM tech so alot of things are dirt cheap to me.

just never built a Fuel injected GM before. lol im still tinkering with jets, points, and mixture screws haha(older people will get that)

Skip the junk yard engines. You have no idea what happened to that engine when the car was driving, or what happened in the yard. Normally you'll have rust on parts, especially valves and the wrist pin area.

ok so i was looking and im having issues finding wiseco pistons for the LSJ. yet this is the route everyone is pointing me in? i need roughly a 9.0:1 ratio, but the only thing im finding is LNF 9.2:1. Any one have some leads or should i contact wisco directly on monday?

for the lsj, look for diamond pistons. i dont think you can use those wisecos on the lnf because of dome design for DI

You cant use LNF pistons in anything but an LNF they have a weird shaped top for the DI. Why cant you get wisecos? They make L61 pistons which should be the same thing besides the different size wrist pin.

i wasnt saying i couldnt use wiseco's, but i will be running stock rods as they are rated with in the whp i will be producing. so i dont plan on getting rods to make the wisecos work.

You couldnt just ask wiseco to bore the wrist pin holes larger? I doubt they would charge you much more since it'll take them about an extra minute or less in the machine.

For spending such a large amount I would want to make the phone call.
