Blown engine?

So we think my buddy blew his engine in a ion redline. no cracks in the block but oil sprayed out the side of the engine around the valve cover gasket and when we removed the spark plugs their were puddles of oil. It still starts and idles. Also two of the spark plugs were completely melted. Any comments?

autolite plugs, 80# injectors with e85 tune, 2.7 pulley on time attack s/c. Blew a hole out the bottom of the muffler...the plug holes were filled with oil, have no idea what went wrong.

Ahh I thought so, Joes old car. I was going to ask if you filled it up with 93, 91 octane etc when it should have had E85. Sorry I cant be much help though. Good luck with the car. I have been around it many times, quite fast.

Detonation leading to a hole in the piston? If plugs were melted it had to have gotten pretty hot.

I doubt it was detonation on e85 unless he was running a stupid amount of timing.

Without a dyno, it's pretty hard to accurately tune for E85, regardless of the knowledge you have.

Maybe it was dyno tuned, in which case, I don't know.

Pretty sure it was not dyno tuned, almost positive. I can ask the original owner some time tomorrow if I get a chance.

Was the IC pump running? It seems that they are dropping like flies this year.

the name "joe"....... defiantly cliche for " I beat the **** out of my car", i don't know what it is, but I would never buy a car off a guy named "joe".

ya when my intercooler pump died without me know and I did a second gear put, my iat2s hit 305* it hit kr so hard it shut the motor off going 40 mph, needless to say it scared the **** outta me. 305* was was just intake air temps, imagine what surface temps, cylinder temps/pressure, and egts were. Scary...
