Bolt snapped off in header to dp flange
Bolt snapped off in header to dp flange
Hey guys, I replaced my downpipe back to stock, a few days later there was a nasty sputter coming from under the car, come to find out, one of the bolts snapped off in the header flange. Whats my best bet? Drill it out? How hard would that be? input appreciated thanks
LOL I had this same problem Jake. Easy out won't work, not enough space. Spray with PB Blast then use vice grips to wiggle it out. Small pipe wrench worked wonders also because it tightens the more you turn.
Though mine snapped due to being rusted on when I tried to take it off, not sure how you managed to break yours driving.

pb blast, grip the end with the grips and put the pipe wrench over the grips and twist, sounds like a better idea I could of ever thought of. thanks nate! ill let ya know how it goes, ill try it tomorrow
Sounds good. And its either pipe wrench or vice grips, not both at the same time haha. I think the pipe wrench is what finally got it out.
Spray PB blast on tonight so it soaks. The more soaking the better.

Future reference this is how a easy out works. Kinda of nice but doesn't work everytime.

stupid me, usually its easy to tell because its hard to tighten anything you cross thread, but I didnt notice it, i screwed up, if I get it out and its all sheared up, should I just throw a bolt thru it and put a nut on the otherside and douce it in locktight? I would take it back off and work on it off the car. Makes it a lot easier. I would re thread it a nut on the other side would look tacky in my opinion. Or like you said from the beginning drill it out and tap to the next size bigger.
Easy out was my first option but I couldn't get it to thread for the life of me, terrible angle there. Grab the stud from the back and use the vice grips or small pipe wrench. Go to the dealer and get a stud and nut there. Its going to run you $12. Yes its over priced but don't be a hack job.
If it were my car I would take off the manifold. Very easy to do if you have a rust free car. Not as easy if it's all rusty. I would pb the studs for the manifold the night before and the next morning take off the manifold. Then get a tap and fix the threads. Once it's off you may be able to grab it with some channel locks or something. Or just drill out the hole and put a nut on the back. Lol it's all up to you. He said he possibly cross threaded it thats why I say he needs to re thread it. Just simply putting a new bolt in won't do much good.
