Boost gauge not returning to full vacuum
Boost gauge not returning to full vacuum
I've been having many problems with my Balt over the past couple years. I got a tune from someone that may not have really known what they were doing, so that always weighs on my mind. Yes, I should have researched the guys tunes more, but it's a little too late for that now. I've moved a few thousand miles away, so there's no getting help from him.
Anyways, I am wondering though if there is maybe a different cause for my latest problem as it has only arisen over the past couple months. It happens intermittently with no clear pattern.
So, basically what's been happening is that I when I'm cruising around, when I shift into neutral, or even just push the clutch in, my revs drop to almost normal idle, but my boost gauge doesn't return to -20psi like normal. I engine brake a lot because I really enjoy the gurgle of my Corsa exhaust, and when that happens, (not applying the gas, but not shifting into neutral or pushing the clutch in) I notice that I don't really even engine brake like normal, and actually I can feel a very slight continuation of the car being propelled. I know this is a very strange description, I'm honestly having trouble trying to figure out how to even explain it. But basically, typically when engine braking, my boost gauge quickly goes into -20psi vacuum(as it should), but now it only goes down to about -10psi. And when this happens, it consistently will not go down to normal vacuum whether idling or engine braking until I turn the car off, and even then, often the car would have to be off for an extended period of time for it to go back to normal(which also doesn't consistently fix it anyways)
Now on top of that, lately I can't even go WOT without going into limp mode. I have been babying the hell out of her lately because of this. I dare not take it about 4k rpm, and almost never press the gas to the floor. This WOT problem might have to do with the shitty tune leaning out the car or something along those lines.
I want to just reflash my tune back to the factory stage 2 tune even though I have a 2.9 pulley. But at this point, I don't know if that's a good idea, or even how to go about doing that. I'm probably going to post in my local section to see if anyone around here does some tuning just for them to take a look at my maps, but I am about as broke as anyone these days, so I don't know when I can afford that.
Ultimately, I am naively wishing that it's just some warn out hose that needs replacement due to all my engine braking, but I know that I'm not that lucky, or that that even makes any sense lol.
Any help or suggestions out there are more than welcome. Even half-assed ideas are welcome. I know I'll get flamed for the risky tune on my car, but that isn't really productive so hopefully I'll get some constructive suggestions.
Thanks for taking the time and for any help!!!

Thanks for the reply. How would I go about cleaning the throttle plate? I'll check the how-to also. And by bad gauge, do you mean boost gauge? It seems like it's functioning properly and something is just wrong with the tune or mechanically.
