Boost Limited in 1,2?
Boost Limited in 1,2?
I just got a new Cobalt SS and it seems just as fast in third as second. Is the boost limited in first and second gears? Do the stage kits remove this limiter?

2nd and 3rd have no limitations.
How many miles are on the car? Mine didn't show full boost until around 1000 or so. And there is some factory torque management in 1st gear, but not 2nd that I know of. You kinda need it for 1st gear, as that gear provides the least amount of traction.
Least amount of traction? How about NO traction in first lol. My first on-ramp experience with my SS/SC was truely orgasmic. But I had to short shift into 2nd, the wheelspin in 1st was insane.
Depending on altitude 10-12.5 psi. Some members have posted their boost level is lower because of air density. I would give it more time than 1000km. Some people boost to the max right away, and some take time to acheive full boost.
I also thought you had to break in the car to see more boost but I found out that was wrong. If you go WOT you will only see 10PSI of boost but once you go over 5500-6500 Rpm's you will see it slowly climb to 12. The hard thing to do is watch your boost gauge and your rpm's becasue you dont want to hit the rev limiter. Go out and check this out and it should work.
This was written to me when I first joined this site and I thought I had the same problem. It worked for me.

So it's not what happens in the begining it's what happens at the end if you know what I mean. You have to go all the way to or near the rev limiter to see the full boost. Common mistake. No worries.

HPTuners allows you to limit boost in first gear. (all gears I think). If you get it tuned, I think it should be limited to 5-6psi once you start doing modifications, in order to increase traction, etc. I rarely try to see any boost in first, it just roasts the **** out of the tires.....

The more miles i put on my car the more boost it produced up till 12.5 when stock . My theory is that the cat starts to get more deposits in it, causing more restriction, therfore showing us more boost. I could be totally wrong , but its an idea.
the older a ar gets the more buildup there is in the SC housing. but that wont happed after 1,000 miles. mine has ALWAYS shown 12.5 lbs of boost from 2nd gear on at the top RPM. I am at about 400-600 feet elevation at all times. i do believe that somewhere from GM it states 12.5 lbs of boost@ 6500 RPM. My boost will not break 0 in 1st or neutral no matter what.
