bought 2007 ss sc
It has the 71.9mm pulley. and the injectors have black tops and grey body? they don't look shiny like the ones i googled for gm stage 2.
how can i tell if the computer is tuned? i'm trying to figure out what exactly is on the car. its boosting about 15psi via the gauge the injectors look just like this except the bodys are dull silver not shiny lol. i wanna make sure the computer is tuned somehow. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cob...3eac848bec.jpg |
Does the pully bolts look blue n only 4?
|
stock injectors have a bright green top, so you have aftermarket injectors for sure. if the connector is the same as the ones pictured they are likely the same injectors, and those are 42lb/hr. the ecm would have had to be tuned for them or it would idle very rich and throw codes.
the pulley is on the extreme side for those injectors. does the pulley have the 4 blue bolts holding it on? are there are distinct markings on it? with the diameter you gave id assume the previous owner installed a gm stage 2 kit and then put the stage 3 pulley on. |
Thx for the replies.
The pulley has four blue bolts. It says 71.9mm on it. Nothing else. The only wierdness with the car is it doesn't like to be lugged at all. It seems to be getting better the more I drive it. The idle bounced a little the first time I drove it but it doesn't do it anymore. There is just slight hesitation at low rpms. |
It has the stock airbox. Not sure if it has the mod or not. But the supercharger is fairly audible. I bought a cheap intake for it to test out I was hoping with the stage 2 tune it wouldn't throw a code with it.
|
Sounds like a GM stage 2 kit. Your fine. If there is no CEL. Don't worry about it. That tune runs rich but it's def awesome!
|
|
nice car - was that the one listed on ebay for awhile?
|
Nice!
i have an arm rest that would fit in there perfect just sayin |
not sure if the car was on ebay or anything. i bought it from a dealership.
with the gm stage 2 running a bit rich, would adding a mid length header take up the slack or am i going to need to get it tuned? i do not like the loud muffler and i plan on putting something like a turbo thrush muffler on it. i don't care how much top end it loses i can't take the sound. when i want to hear the s/c i have to dip into it enough that the exhaust is blasting. i dont want to draw unneeded attention |
oh another thing. could you choose which spoiler you want when you bought them? most of the SS SC i see have the bigger spoiler. just curious i don't mind this one or the other one for that matter
|
also, i do not have to DEQ where i live and if i go without the cat will the gm stage 2 tune throw a code?
|
You will be fine with an intake and full exhaust. Even a cat less downpipe. Word of advice. If you can run my old exhaust. It be great.
I ran a Bad Mab header. Zzp downpipe with high flow cat. Corsa touring cat back. Sounded so goooooooood |
i havent' gotten under the car to look and see what exhaust is even on there. i did look in the engine bad and see that it still has the stock exhaust manifold and downpipe. not sure what muffler is on there now and if it even has a cat or resonator.
i had a turbo thrush muffler on a acura integra i turbocharged a long time ago and it killed the HP but it was not loud lol |
|
Make sure you get a good intake from Zzp or ottp those eBay ones are junk or the air box mod is great also
|
No way I'd spend that much one a couple pieces of bent pipe. I'm too cheap.
|
i looked under the car the exhaust all looks stock except it has this little muffler that says "PRO SPEED" on it.
|
Oh man. Got another cheapo! Spend twice and complain. All aboard the cheap train cheap cheappppp!!!

Yeah well if you don't get the maf position right it ain't gonna run right
it has two screws and it could be put in backwards. it looks like it should be sitting the same way |
As predicted the eBay intake as it comes didn't work right. It fit fine and looks good but the angle of the maf must be messing things up. It ran fine but had no power past like 4k rpms. I'm going to cut it up and use the existing hard plastic piece of the pipe and there was already a metal piece at the end with a aem filter on it.
Sucks the Cobalt are so sensitive with the maf |
Get rid of the maf lol
|
I like map only better but mafs what it's got.
I took the intake off and cleaned the maf. It feels like it lost power? What's the deal. I put it back how it was. |
the vacuum lines going to and from the boost bypass valve were really cracked and shitty. it didn't seem like they were leaking just from me plugging it and blowing into it. but i put a new vacuum line on from the supercharger to the valve, and i bought two vacuum plugs and blocked off the route from the solenoid to the bypass valve.
i have gm stage 2 ecm so im not seeing any more boost. (i see 14-15psi). but it does put out a lot of boost part throttle which i like for cruising around... but it probably doesn't do much but use more gas lol |
the car just feels like it doesn't have quite as much power but i might just be getting used to it. lol.
i ran it for a little bit with the maf disconnecte and it obviously ran like ass hole but i just had to move the car. i cleared the code after i put it back together. not sure what impact if anything that could have in the computer to make it lose some power. |

anyone know what the bottom nipple is for on the solenoid that goes to the bypass valve? just a reference line to use for something else?
|
After driving it again it definitely has the same power. Not sure why it felt slower before. Maybe it was a heat issue since I had been just in town starting and stopping the car.
Definitely still runs hard. I think I like the bypass mod with the stage 2. Its fun because it sounds like I'm getting more sc whine at part throttle. Same max boost though about 15psi |

Cobalt ss supercharged 87 gas
Hey, I bought a modified 06 cobalt ss supercharged. I went an hour away to buy the car and I needed gas to get back home, I accidentally filled up 87 gas and when I got home I noticed a loud knocking coming from my engine bay???? Did I mess something up? if so what is? Lol dumb mistake I know

Just driving with 87 shouldnt do it. Unusually a pre ignition engine caused blow up would break a piston or something and it wouldn't run at all |
I figured out why it feels faster sometimes than others the intercooler pump wasn't working when I checked...
I tried smacking it from the top and nothing changed lol :( |
It's a wonder what that pump will do for the power. When I bought mine (bone stock I believe) it had a bum ICP and clogged and completely unusable air filter. Couldn't hardly hear the SC. Ever since I got the pump and did the trusty Spectre cone filter airbox mod, it's ran like a new car.
And 87 Octane gas guy... should be fine as long as it's on stock tune and for the love of God please put 93+ and full synthetic oil in it 😂 :cssNET: |
I jacked car up and smacked it with hammer started working again...
The power difference is significant. At least when it's hear soaked. I'm going to buy one of those obdii Bluetooth things and hook it up to my phone to monitor stuff. Did it before on my old Cummins but can't find the Bluetooth thing |
The torx bits holding the cover over the plugs were all rounded off so i put off putting new plugs in.... but I managed to pound one size larger into it and get them out...
Car has been hesitating at low rooms and in-between shifts and this morning it missed really hard on a 2nd gear wot pull... Really annoying. Not sure what the cause was going in but I put the 1 step colder ngk 7s gaped to about 0.033 plugs in. It looks like maybe the stockers were in there... They were the ngk 6 plugs and we're gapped like 0.040 or more. edit: just drove it and it seems to run much smoother and i don't get the horrible hesitation between shifts and low rpm. it still bogs bad at very low rpms but hey its a 4 cylinder. |
pulled a new STI pretty hard last night lol
