Brake Fluid Replacement Advice...

I'm looking for a good DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid that I could pick up at a local store....any suggestions? Thanks!

I thought 5.1 was synthetic which would require swapping all lines to stainless.

Why the desire to increase to 4 or 5.1? That will dictate which direction I would send you.

The fluid change is for track application. DOT 5 is silicon-based and requires SS lines, etc. DOT 5.1 is glycol-based just like DOT 3 and DOT 4 and will mix just fine.

i fyou want to be cheap and trick get wilwood 570 we use it in all our race cars; abs cars cant use silicone brake fluid, and the really trick Castrol and AP super 600 stuff wont save your brakes if temperature is a problem...cooling will...the fact is the 600 and above brake fluid is so hygroscopic that it soaks up moisture and the boiling point drops like a stone. if you have not changed your brake fluid lately its probably crap anyway and as the clutch stuff mixes up with it unless you have fitted a seperate remote clutch reservoir (easy to do) then just buy regular brake fluid and change it twice a year or more if you race the car...and if walmart sell it it comes from the manufacturer so whats the problem with walmart? They didnt make it and It's all about price on this forum...just saying . also if you open a can of brake fluid and dont seal the cap, or if you leave the cap off your brake reservoir for say 10 minutes on a humid day, your brake fluid just became crap....

I'm assuming by track you mean road course. If so, qwikredline gave you about the best advice you're going to get. I've also heard wonderful things about the Wilwood 570 fluid. That's BY FAR the most used fluid where I run. I've never heard a bad thing about it.

Thanks a lot guys for the help!! I did a little more looking around and happened to find some Motul 5.1 at a local motorcycle shop. For everyone's edification -- racing brake fluid is easiest to find at motorcycle shops. The Motul 5.1 or the RBF600 (although they quickly absorb moisture) still have higher wet boiling points than DOT 3/4 fluids. If I had found the Willwood 570, I would have gotten it cause its cheaper, but oh well, i think I'll be just fine with Motul. Thanks again guys...happy tracking!
