Broken Rockers

so the title states what has happened to my car. i got in and went to start the car and i heard shot break apart and had no compression. i originally thought it was my timing chain not allowing me to get compression but after ripping the head off the car i realized that all my intake rockers were busted in two pieces.

has anyone else had this issue with their SS.

mine is 2006, stage 2 sc kit, gmpp exhaust, k&n typhoon intake. it has about 82000 miles on it.

you got more problems then then broken rockers if it wont build compression pull the head and look for bent valves

it wouldnt start up because the intake valves would open and allow air into the engine it sounded like there was no compression. I have also bore scoped the motor and no valves are bent. Also i measure the valve height and they are all good.

I have also done alot of thinking on this issue and im thinking that maybe the problem was caused by my intake valve springs getting weak. So because of money not being a big friend of mine and starting a new job in a couple weeks, i can only do rockers all the way around.

After that i will do cams, rockers, valve springs, valve, and rods.

Thats all for now.

yeha im guess #4 maby shot or it could be just the rockers ****** with it, i check mine after they replaced the rockers for a 150ish across the board, they were all pretty close just im startin to worry about the leak down a bit i have like 6% on each cylinder

Nothing wrong with the car, driver error lol. Can't be overrevving that badly.

Iboost - nice pic. my car looked very similar to yours except rockers were laying on their side. lol

ItalianJoe1 - you sound like a dealer mechanic. lol jk, im not gunna lie i do enjoy my car (prolly more than i should) lol so im sure my style of driving my car has caused some of the issue.

All i know is ive had domestic cars all my life except one car it was a import and all my domestics broke multiple times and my import loved the driving and asked for more all the time. lol so idk if domestic cars cant handle my driving. lol

but i will post some pics of the broken rockers when mine get in from the store.

6% is ok, between 1-10% on performance engines is acceptable.
On regular output engines even up to 20% leakage could be acceptable. But anything thereover requires overhaul.
There is ALWAYS a small amount of leakage in any internal combustion engine.
These engines have a fairly high compression ratio.
6% is definitely ok you have nothing to worry about.

forgot to mention that i got 150-150-155-0 on a completely dry compression test, you are supposed to put a couple drops of oil in for a better seal

Lol, i've done plenty of tech work myself.

I always pushed my cars hard as ****, but there is a limit between enjoying the car and abuse. Missed gears and **** is what breaks stuff. I regularly pulled my cobalt to 7200+ on stock engine, and 7600+ on upgraded valve springs, and i had logs showing over 8000 rpms when it spun through the limiter in 1st gear. Never threw a lower gear on a WOT shift or anything like that, so it never broke anything in the head.

ItalianJoe1 - You seem to know your stuff and im glad to get any info i can on my car. So thank you.

On one note tho. Ive had like one or two miss shifts when i first got my car, none at WOT tho. and my rev limit it 6750 i believe so im not revving to much for the valve springs i dont believe. But i will look more into this and see about doing some tech work on my car and see what is goin the diagnostic side of cars. it would be nice to see what my revs are and stuff. I dont think ive ever had a WOT 1st gear run, its too short and the car builds alot of torque and my tires seem to not handle the torque to well, so generally its get the car moving as fast as possible with not alot of wheel spin. (everyones goal)

but the new rockers should be in soon and then i will see what happens next...

did you get new lifters also you could be have a lifter or lifters collapsing on you causing the rockers to self destruct
