Buyer Help For the Cobalt SS S/C

Hey everyone. I'm new to CobaltSS.net and I wanted to get some inside information from S/C owners.

I'm in a position were I can spend 26K on a new car. I want a year around daily driver that can also handle snowy conditions. Ideally, I want to spend under 26K.

I currently own a 99' Vette so speed isn't the number one priority for this purchase but it's an important factor.

Just to show you guys a picture of the car:

My priorities are listed in descending order:

1. Fun to drive
2. Comfortable [Leather]
3. Sleek Design [Both Exterior and Interior]
4. Speed
5. Insurance
6. Fuel Economy

I looked at the SRT-4. It's extremely fast but offers no comfort. I could get a used one for 20K miles for around $15K which is favorable.

I considered the Mustang GT, but I don't care for the exterior styling. Plus, 300 V8 isn't necessarily the best car to sit with the insurance company.

I also looked a the new Eclipse GT. The exterior styling is somewhat awkward and I really dislike the cheap look to the interior styling.

Finally, I considered the Cobalt SS S/C. I really liked everything about the car thus far. It fits all of my expectations and seems to be an all around car. I wanted to get some feedback from owners to see what they have to say. I took it for a test drive not to long ago and was surprised how well it handled [As much as I was able to test...] and the acceleration. The new 07' Leather seats were very comfortable as well as the styling was easy to the eye. The only thing I disliked was the drivers position. I felt like I was much higher than I should have been.

Anyway, I would like to hear your thoughts! Thank you!

It's a great DD. I've had mine now for 17 months and over 40000 miles on it. I have about 1500 in mods and its a fast little car for the money. I paid 19800 for mine and i love it. I've gotten used to sitting a little high but I think the stering wheel shoud be positioned a little different. I've had no issues with the clutch and pushing some nice power to the wheels. mods in sig. I don't think you will be dissapointed if you bought this car for dd.

SUBARU WRX FTW.... TR model comes with cloth but regular WRX comes with leather and sunroof and IPod connectors... eh since you got a vette for speed... WRX will be reliable, fun, handles great in snow, everything else you would want. just a lil input

Did you buy it new? Have you driven it in the snow?

Thanks for the feedback

I looked at the Subaru WRX and I don't like the styling very much. I wish they would have refreshed the interior when they refreshed the exterior - it looks junky to me.

Actually, you can lower the driverside seat. There is a lever on the side that you can raise or lower the seat. In addition to this, you could keep your eyes peeled for an early model 07 with the Recaro Racing seats, they are leather with like a mesh bottom and back, which I find nice during the winter months for warmth on the bum bum..lol..

Winter driving on the stock tires in this car is a little tricky, but once you realize that, then you're ok. If you put some good winter tires on her or a darn good high performance all season, then you should be fine. All around good car, I have an 07 and I LOVE HER..Puts a smile on my face everytime I get in.

the SC is a great car .... it wasen't what I wanted originally... but at 0%!
anyways, you really have to work to find that "just right seat postion".
you really need snows if you want to drive w/ confidence in the winter (she goes thru snow like a 4x4 now).
really comfortable on the highway too
biggest down.... small trunk opening!!!

otherwise you will continually amaze others w/ the power, handling and braking the SC has!
I got mine for new for like 21.5K

also, make sure you get the G85 package, LSD option (I don't have that and have been in SC's w/ the G85 and it's a huge difference).

best of luck whatever you choose!

^^^ well, he doesn't like the wrx styling, so he woudln't like either of those...

at least you've done some research here, which is good.. it seems to be the only one so far that you actually liked... and to agree with someone above, the driver seat can be raised and lowered so you can get yourself into a good posision.

I gotta tell you, I love this car. Its a ball to drive, and it gets good mileage. I cant say muck for snow, because it doesn't really snow here... we get a couple hours worth before the sun comes up and its melted by 10 in the morning, and thats when everything is closed because of inclement weather!

Personally, I think a Cobalt SS/SC would be a nice complement to your Vette, they are brothers you know...

If you want a good snow car from any balt you need to upgrade the crappy stock tires. Pirellis are horrible and so are the base level Continentals.

I say WRX, but I might be partial on this. Plus AWD FTW

was the first half relivent? Cobalts from the factory come with Pirelli or Continentals unless the dealer changed them for some reason. And they all suck in the snow.

And I only agreed to someone who said WRX earlier. Plus you can get over its "looks" but its hit or miss with some people

it was relevant because you said the stock tires suck... mine don't, and i was pointing that out... i don't mind the WRX though, i don't think it looks that bad, and would definitely be a nice power upgrade vs. a 2.2 cobalt

I like to hear the seat is adjustable vertically.

I have also considered a used EVO and STI. Both STI[Old body style] along with the EVO look like cheap, riced out cars. If you removed the front fascia and wings on either car it would look like a normal sedan. I do like the AWD but that isn't enough for me to consider the cars.

Styling and refinement is important to me and I think the Cobalt SS S/C with the new refreshed interior has.

Yes I bought it new with the gm discount. Yes I drive it in the snow. I have snow tires on 16 inch rims for the winter. I drive 140 miles each and every day. I also get 30mpg.
Joe

p.s Nice Vett buy the way.

If you cant get an 07 with recaros, rest assured you will still enjoy the black heated leather that they come with instead.

I've had my 07 for just about 4 months now and I still cant wait to get out and drive it every day. It really is a fun car to own, not to mention it sips gas! I get 20mpg city/30+mpg highway!
