Cam position sensor problems

I've been getting the Chevy P0017 CAM/Crankshaft Position Correllation since I put the new cam position sensor in and I can seem to get it to go away. Most of the time it takes around 6 trys to even get the car started. I read on the haynes book on the installation and it says to align the marks but i only see one mark. Has anyone done this job yet if so give me some info.

There are two threads on this page that people have posted problems on install. Look at those for info.

There's a triangle mark on the cam sensor housing that you have to align the notch in the hex with. Then, with #4 cyl at TDC compression, it will work.

Worst case scenario, there are only 6 possible locations. Pull it, turn it one notch, put it back. Repeat until it starts first crank every time, the code will go away on it's own.

Okay now the triangle mark is it inside the hole where the cam is or its it on the mating surface where the hex thing goes.

it's on the housing that the cam sensor is in, the part that unbolts from the head. Twist the hex to line up with that, set the motor at TDC#4, install. Should be right.

No, it will start eventually.

Crank position sensor will let the car crank briefly and not start. Had that happen on mine once.

For Cam sensor replacement
Make sure you are at TDC on the compression stroke.

The crank sensor requires a case relearn when it is replaced.

This pic of the cam sensor may help

Ok my buddy used the tech 2. It was a breeze. For some reason he had to get the car up to normal temps then it asked to to be kept at a certain rpm. Am I wrong?
