Can you tell me what this is???

So for the past 2 weeks, there's been this clicking noise in my engine bay. It's pretty loud after a cold start, and then it gets quieter, but it's still loud. I was told it sounds like a solenoid tick...but my dad looked at it and said it was this thing:

what the hell is it? it's driving me nuts, and any insight would be appreciated.

My car has been making a weird noise like that too and the dealer said it was my aftermarket headers rubbing against my firewall idk?

it looks like a cam position sensor (hall effect) to me, but id have to go look under my hood to directly be sure.

it shouldnt click at all if it is a hall effect sensor, if you want to find the noise get a stethascope and put it to the engine and pin point the sound.

well it looks like its cam driven which dosent really help... let see we have electric power steering so it cant be that... umm direct injected motors use cam driven fuel pumps but we dont have that, uhh you got me. can someone step in and help the man out. (alot of our cars do that uppon startup and goes away when warm) i thought it was the timing chain tensioner making a slapping/ticking noise un noticable to most people, sorry i cant help more

is there a electrical plug going to it? like he said ^^^csps maybe

yeah...it clicks like crazy. if i can't find out what it is...i'll just have to take it to the dealer and have them look at it. i'm surprised there's some people on here that have taken this motor apart a dozen times...and nobody can tell me what this is. oh well...good things come to those who wait....bump!

That is your camshaft position sensor. It shouldn't be making any noise unless it is really fucked up. If is was, it should throw a CEL.

sweet! sweet jesus thank you! A long time ago my camshaft position sensor threw a code, but i haven't had a problem with it since, it cleared itself and everything. And now it's clicking and annoying the everliving hell out of me. Thanks man!
