Cant stop pulley from spinning

Just tried to swap pullies, and I couldnt get the pulley to stop spinning while I was trying to take the bolts off. Any suggestions on how to keep the pulley stationary while trying to unbolt those damn stage2 bolts?

take the belt off the pulley and put a rubber pipe wrench around it that way you can hold it still

Put the belt back on it... and then hold on to the belt it gives you a bit more leverage!

What pulley are you putting on???

I'm trying to put on the 2.9er

So actually grip the belt? I guess that makes sense. I have a feeling these bolts are going to get stripped today...

Yes that would be the stage 2 bolts.... Tkolb... be careful with them I am still using those bolts!

But yes hold on to the pulley with the belt on it... give you a bit more leverage!

I have a backup set of bolts incase i strip them, but i do want to keep them blue ones in tact. even though warranty work is hard to get, if i cant put my stage2 setup back together after the swap, i can kiss any warranty work goodbye. Wish me luck!

I'm probably going to go out rice hunting tonight around capital blvd. Hopefully i'll have the new pulley for it. Lots of easy kills out there, but you can find some decent races occasionally. Half the time I don't even mess around though; Cops don't have alot to do in raleigh.

If you look at the center of the SC shaft you'll see its threaded. Just buy a bolt and two nuts (I forget the size) lock the two nuts against the shaft and use a open end to hold the shaft still while you try to back out the bolts. Good luck with the gm blue bolts, I ended up destroying them damn threadlock

Use An Air Impact Gun, I Think Thats What Its Called. Set The Psi On The Compreesor On High, Thats What Ive Always Used Too Loosen Up Bolts On Other Pulleys Not On A Sc But It Should Also Work. BUT LEAVE THE BELT ON THERE

I pretty sure craftsman makes a strap wrench, that will hold the pulley with ease.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up getting it off with relative ease. To keep it from spinning, I put a wrench with a rubber handle between the sc pulley, and the other pulley that is right next to it. So when turining the bolts, the wrench had enough grip being wedged between the pullies to stop the sc pulley from moving. Huzzah! I have the 2.9 on!

Once again, thanks for the advice guys.

Hey M-Dub, sorry I didn't call ya, but I ended up staying home and drinking a bunch of beer, so it didn't seem like the best time to go looking for a race. Next time!
