Car Died...Again

It was raining on the way home and I got stopped at a light two blocks from my house. I took off like normal and got really bad wheel hop and heard something pop. the whole front of the car was shaking, then bang. I tried putting it in gear and it wont go. It sounds like somthing is banging around in my engine compartment. What could it be???

have you checked underneath to make sure the axles are OK and there is not leaking fluid?

lots of engine work, upgraded axels, solid mounts, spec stage 3+ clutch, lightweight flywheel

Thats what I thought too. I didn't see it though. Would the car not move at all if this were the case?

could be broken shifter linkages, busted axles, cracked tranny housing, all of the above or something in the engine

I don't think it's the engine, it still revs up fine. Hopefully it's the shifter linkage, I broke those when I was still stock.

yea might've broken your mounts too depending on how bad the hop was.. i would doubt axles though since you have upgraded axels but who knows... either way good luck man

I vote for the tranny mine went out in 5th gear and I would get a grinding noise while I would drive the car. Got it fixed but it was my gear that popped out and flooding all over the place. In other hand you had wheel hop you may have cracked you tranny case.

No grinding, just the bumping noise and no movement

Lift your car up and check the axle boots if your drive axle boot is ripped its going to be the axle. You can find this out my having a lot of grease all over the boot and axle. My brother had the same problem with his VW golf VR6.

I checked the axels, and no rips. Also, no leaking tranny. side note- the mph goes up like the car is moving.

Tranny or Flywheel but its going to be something that has to do with your tranny, you should get it checked, when you RP jump but no movement the clutch is not grabbing or your Flywheel’s teeth are all grinded down. Or busted Tranny sorry man it may just be your tranny

Piston.. I had the EXACT same problem when I first bought my car. I had a cracked piston with an oil leak down #2 cylinder. It died on the freeway but started back up like 20 minutes later. After it happened my car ran extra slow.. It clogged the catalytic converter and I was boosting like 20psi I didn't know wtf was going on with it until I took it to the dealer and they tore the engine down and found the problem with the piston.

The verdict is in, I ripped my cv joint. Evidently the passenger side half-shaft is in two pieces. These were supposed to be rated at 400 hp and I'm not making that kind of power, so I don't know what the deal is.
