car is down...need help from gurus.

During the break-in process of my car, I noticed that there was leaking of oil due to the dipstick popping out. So I figured no big deal, the car can still be driven until I figure out what's causing it and fix that. But today, I've had a whole lot of oil dripping down on the drivers side, coming from below the location of the filter. Everytime the car starts, the oil is coming out steady. I can't get underneath the car now to try to figure out what it is, but I still have no idea what could be causing it.

Also, I am throwing a code p0017: something to do with crankshaft and camshaft positioning. I am at a loss now as to what is causing that, and don't want to chance driving the car and having the engine seize up on me.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

From under the filter? Did you check to see if the cap is loose a bit? Maybe the o-ring on the cap is bad and could use replacing.

Only other place I can see it leaking from is possibly the oil cooler thing.

it looked like it was coming from under the oil cooler. I took it over by a friends house this morning to see waht's going on.

Clean it all up and have someone start the car. Look as best as possible at the cooler to check.

crank sensor is under the oil filter. shouldnt leak unless damaged. have you ever taken off your oil cooler or done anything to it that would possibly cause any damage? cuz that whole system is a lil pricey. their are o rings in there that could have possibly been damaged if it was taken apart...

I have pics of all the sensors at home. I'll try and find them. Here is a pic of how the oil cooler attaches to the oil filter location. If this isn't bolted down well, oil could get by those o rings

go to oceana rent the lift
look under and see where its comin from
aint it like 5bucks an hr or something
there bay area is nice compared to NAB
or you can jack it up clean the engine as much as you can
and look under. even though you see it in one spot, it
can be leakin else where.

my car has been incessantly hard to start. Sometimes it will start on the first try, and sometimes it takes like four times to gettng it to start. It's definitely coming from underneath the oil cooler, it's just a matter of getting underneath it to see exactly what's causing it and how hard it is to remove and replace things. And the bay for oceana is nice but I have a few places I can go to clean things up. I'll let you know what the verdict is.

bolts had been found a little loose on the oil cooler. Bolts have since been tightened down, and there appear to be no further leaks as of now. I'm going to keep observing things to make sure.

OK, how the f*ck are you going to "keep observing things to make sure"... since the car is at my house in SEVA and your ass is in Georgia???? .

Turns out that the "Xpurt" that did the build did two things wrong...

1. There are 3 bolts holding the oil cooler ass'y to the block. The boss on the hidden lower mounting point was broken. Got that fixed.

2. The bolts were longer than what should have been, resulting in them bottoming out before it was clamped properly in place right.... Just shortened the bolts and all is well. Just gotta clean up the oil mess and you should be good to go, along with other problems with your build. like the P0017 DTC which was due to the exhaust cam sensor being installed wrong. Got that fixed today!

So far, good.... Your car is gonna be the most kick-ass S/C around when we're done!!

somebody's gotta keep an eye on you back there. You shouldn't even be looking at it right now, but you know I didn't want to chance things. I am still debating pulling off the tvs to get to the intake manifold and the pcv checkvalve.

yeah, little things that weren't caught when everything was put back together. Hopefully, once the dipstick issue is found and fixed, then the fun can really start. I don't want to have another oops moment that will prevent me from driving it somewhere important. I am on leave right now, and couldn't drive my car because of the said issues.

do you have any kind of venting? oil catch can, or anything like that? some have run into crankcase pressure and simply put a bigger nipple on the valve cover, then ran a hose straight to the intake...

nope, no kind of oil catch can or breather cap. I've read about that but never got too deep into it for an understanding. I still want to check the pcv valve on the intake mani. before going down that route.
