Car is running like crap!!!

Ok, so i was up town today for like 30 mins. It was hot and humid, i had the a/c on. I was stopped at a light for a minute or so. Then when the light turned green so naturally i went. But,it was like i had no power. The car wanted to stall but i feathered the clutch alot and got the car to move. My DIC flashed LOW FUEL but i had a 1/4 of a tank a minute ago. Then my Fuel gauge went to "E". The car was a bitch to drive home but when i got home and the car sat for an hour and then it was fine. It drove great for the rest of the day. Also, My car is absolutly the biggest pain to drive in the rain. It will cut out in the mid RPM range. It is very jerky and it is just hard to drive when it is wet out. I think that these problems might be related. Where/what do you guys think i should check out 1st?

I know for a fact when my AC is on when i take off i need a lot more gas pedal to get going now i dont know about why your car runs like crap in the rain except that water is hitting the sensor in your intake if you have one

Your 2 major issues are:
  • "My DIC flashed LOW FUEL but i had a 1/4 of a tank a minute ago. Then my Fuel gauge went to "E".
  • "It is very jerky and it is just hard to drive when it is wet out."

Looks like a bad sensor/something electrical thing going on there.

So you ask what items should check out 1st?

ANSWER: BOTH

Get your car into a dealer now before you end up stuck on a road somewhere and have to pay a tow charge to get you home.

yup deffinately an electrical prob, if it is your MAF i dont think it would mess with your tank indicator, have you installed anything electrical or removed any connectors recently?

I would try cleaning the throttle body and MAF,theres a thread on here about that. I did this recently and solved my idle problems, but the low fuel indicator is a different story.

Yeah, i did clean my MAF and take my throttle body off and cleaned that up today. Well my MAF sensor was a little bit loose in the intake. So, i thought that maybe i didn't put it in tight enough. After i cleaned it and put it back in, the screws were stripped out! I guess i over tightened the screws during my install or the metal is soft and they just striped out when i just tried to put it back in. Anyway, the car runs way better now. It rained today and i drove my car with ease. Now the LOW FUEL indicator is another problem. It has only happened once but im not sure what would cause it to do that. No i haven't done anything electrical in a long time. I will go under my dash today and check the connections for my gauges. Im going to check out the wiring for my stereo system as well. Thanks for the help guys.

My ss/sc has done this to me probably a half a dozen times (the fuel gauge going straight to E and then the car goes into limp mode) and it has only happened when I have had the A/C on... I never understood it and today was the first time I used my A/C in awhile and I get the rpm's jumping from 500-1500 rpm its so ridiuclous that I want to just take my whole A/C out. I personally think something is going wrong in the ecu when the A/C is on or the clutch for the A/C is jacked up or something.... I dunno, anyone else got any insight?

Transam, how many times has this happened to you? Anyone else out there experience this?

I am also curious about what people used to clean their MAF sensor with. I think I should give mine a cleaning.

Right now I'm having a problem--I'm only hitting 5 psi and the S/C sounds like it is struggling to get air to produce more boost. I've already cleaned the MAF and the Throttle Body, looked at every hose and connection. Can anyone help with this problem?? It was running great until 2 days ago, and the only thing that I have done to the car in the last week is put a new AEM filter on it. I've had everything apart and put back together since. It has to be some sort of sensor or something??? Or is it possible my throttle body is bad?

I had mine tuned and it is wonderful!!!
Mine would jerk because of the factory slip control but after eliminating that, jesus christ it is nice!

I just went to autozone and got a can of Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. It was about four dollars. I checked all of my connection that i wired in and they are appear to be fine.

"Transam, how many times has this happened to you? Anyone else out there experience this?"
- my car has only gone into limp mode and done the gas gauge thing once.

-This happened to me because i sprung a little leak in my upper radiator hose. I mean little leak,it took me a while to find the source. But my belt was slipping so i took it off and washed it in a bucket of soap and water then dried it. Then i was back to boosting normal. Dont no if this will help you but it is kind of close to an experince i had.
