Cat-Back Exhaust System
Cat-Back Exhaust System
"Constructed of T-304 stainless steel with free-flowing mandrel bent tubing. Features semi-polished muffler with two distinctive sounds that meet all Federal decibel requirements: Touring (more aggressive than stock) and Performance (much more aggressive than stock). "
I am no car expert but i was thinking of adding this to my Cobalt. Does either of these add any HP or Torque to the car or it is just for looks ?

Use the search function, you will have plenty to read.

Which exhaust is this ?
You will proly get anywhere from 5-10 improvement on both Torque and HP.
Honestly, not real sure.
In the future or on a stock car I'd go with a set-up from CTI. The complete set-up, from the header to the tip. It runs around $1000 and should open things up for good numbers.
As far as intakes go, the K&N fits best, the Injen looks great...they do almost the same for performance. Don't forget the K&N drop in filter does almost the same thing for a lot less money.

I think that an exhaust system should be the first thing...not sure which one just yet. The cat and the muffler are the constrictions right now....find an exhaust that replaces those and it'll be a start.
I replaced my exhaust and I have shown what it has gained, I know there are better exhausts ....Anyone have any suggestions..??
For a full setup, I'd say full exhaust, intake, manifold, stage 2, 2.8 pulley, control arm bushings, motor/transmounts, port/polished S/C, lighter/smaller wheels, new pistons, clutch/flywheel(Flywheel only if you're making this a SERIOUS race car). That's all I got so far

Personally, I'm waiting on the Center Force clutch for a bit, its in testing. I think Clutch Masters has one out too. The polishing and porting on the SC has been done, no numbers yet.
He'll be broke if he gets it all at once
I had planned to take this in stages. Over a period of time not all at once
1. Strut Bar
2. Then either K&N or Injen intake
3. The Catback Performance
4. Then hopefully by then Stage 1 and 2 will be more avilable. and not on back order.

I'd say build your support before anything else. Get your strut bar, springs, bushings and mounts, then go for the power. Gobs of HP mean nothing if your car can't handle it. That's my route, but to each their own.

That a really good point but that brings up another question what kinda horsepower can the stock Cobalt support before more advanced springs, bushings and mounts are needed ?
To be honest, I wouldn't know exactly. They used the factory suspension on the Grand-AM car, and I think that was in the high 200's. I'd reccommend doing it regardless, just to be sure, but that's just me.
The bushings and mounts eliminate the wheel hop, the springs and strut bars imporve the handling

Actually, now that I think about it, it doesn't matter. the suspension isn't necessarily going to be destroyed due to HP, you want to improve upon it so that as your HP increases, you can control the vehicle better, so you don't end up losing control, and wrecking your car.

I totallly agree with you u dont want something u cant control u have any good sites i can look at for suspension. Also i am no mechanic intalling this stuff would be very diffucult to intall on my own.
www.eibach.com, Get the sportlines
www.jbodyperformance.com for the bushings
www.dcsports.com for the strut bar I think
Ask Doc, he has them all(accept the bushings), he'll know better than me

I'd look at coil-overs if you want real adjustability

from a catback exhaust, expect 5-10 hp. the sound and looks are certainly something to consider if you are into that sort of thing. none of the exhausts sound too ricey. you have the option of Borla, Corsa, GMPP, Magnaflow, Vibrant (?), .... prob a couple im forgetting. :P
i would say that a strut bar, CAI, and exhaust would be a good routte for first parts. doesnt void the warranty and is cheap power.... sort of
