Cat or no Cat
If you live in a place that checks your emissions, then it would be best to just get a high flow cat. New highflow cats can flow more than 450 cfm.
Diasble the following ODB-II codes if your running no CAT & removing the second o2 sensor:
P0036
P0056
P0136
P0137
P0138
P0141
P0430
It will be noticeably louder and buzzier. Install a second resonator and get a chambered muffler installed to reduce sound. If you have stock muffler, enjoy! It sounds pretty good IMO.

mine has been removed for 1 month now because even in stock form (the car) it was plugging and the dealership won't fix it anymore. I went thru 6 cats in 2 years until I said I had enough. I did everything they told me.
dude, rich ass tunes clog cats, thats just the way it is. your stock tune was probably super rich. you gotta remember, gm has to take into consideration winter in canada and alaska.. as well as summer in arizona/utah/texas.. a good hptune would've fixed the issue, but now with the 60's you need a rich tune, so catless is the only way to go.

My 2.2 Cobalt Sedan suffers from this as well and it's stock (replaced twice now) too so you tell me how a car running 87 octane runs rich...... I got sand in the desert to sell you.
When I had HP Tuners on stock format and had the tune setup to be really leaned out it still clogged. It's called poor design. You will find the same converter on the base model 2.2's and 2.4's. Supposedly it's "high flow" but based on flow charts the converter flows the same for all models so you tell me.

The cat on my SS downpipe DWARFS the one my 2.2 DP
In any event you cannot blame the stock tune for it clogging. The car runs super lean from the factory. To such a point that most SS/SC's are poppin 90%-120% injector rate from the factory and the AFR's i've seen run almost mid 12's @6300RPM (not even finished in 2nd or 3rd.) It climbs in third by .2 more afr on average i've seen.
If your talking about the GM stage tunes then yes I believe you when I say they are running super uber rich. When your only tapping 50-60% IDC with an AFR at like 10.5 -11 then obviously there is some room to play with.
Don't go Magnaflow. Try a Walker high flow Converter.
