CEL light

So i thought this was pretty weird.

I was driving down RT. 15 in maryland on my way to frederick doin like 65 mph or so. my rpm gauge went to 0 and stopped working. My boost gauge went to 0 but my car was still running. 5th gear stopped working. I would hit the gas and get nothing. I kept downshifting and finally the car starting moving again in 3rd gear but the rpm gauge is still at 0. i shift back up to 5th and hit the gas and again nothing. i proceed to pull over and the car is barely running. you can barely hear the motor puttering at all. I turned the car off and popped the hood. Everything looked fine and i didnt smell anything weird. i turned the car back on and it started up just fine. rpm gauge started working again and so did 5th gear. The next day I noticed my CEL light is on.

I called my dealership and told them about the issue. I took the car in and they said they said my CEL light is on because of a code with the Cat. They said its a known defect with the 2007 model where the Cat is blocked or something causing too much back pressure into the motor. They almost werent going to replace the cat because of my "exhaust modifications" but there manager told them to go ahead and do it because he doesnt want an unsatisfied customer.

Im just kind of curious would this issue with my cat be the reason all that crap happened to my rpm gauge and 5th gear or not? I'm just trying to make sure that it's nothing more serious than what they found out.
