Ceramic coated exhaust, yes or no?
Ceramic coated exhaust, yes or no?
How many of you feel that when getting a header and a DP that ceramic coating is a must?
I am going to start buying some mods for my car and one of the first will be a header/dp combo. I see that the vibrant combo comes coated which is cool. I am not one to cut corners when it comes to modding but if I wont see a difference in preformance between a coated and non coated exhaust then I wont get the vibrant and I will go with ZZP's 1 3/4 header/ DP combo non coated.
I understand the coating keeps the exhaust gasses in the exhaust and prevents rusting but is it really that important?

Ceramic coating is way overrated. There are millions of stainless headers that run just fine for many many years. Spend the extra money on something else. The under hood temps are not going to be all that different so that doesn't really matter at all.
All you will do is burn it off like the rest of us have, because they use a 1200* paint and most of us run higer EG Temps than that!
It' might look pretty, but my "ceramic" coating lasted a whole 15-20 minutes before starting to smoke and burn off!

i'd say get it coated, real coating will not burn off,
these motors need to stay cool, that is the key to the LSJ keep temps down and coating the exhaust manifold will help tremendously, get it done

Real ceramic coating will NOT burn off or discolor. If it does, it wasnt done properly. I have ceramic coated headers on all my vehicles, coated inside and out, looks as good today as it did the day it was new.
I will say I've seen quite a few Stainless Steel headers start to rust (including my old ones).
The painted ones say they are painted and yes those burn off but not the ceramic coating.
Example: Pacesetter headers
I've also had high temp coating from Jet Hot on my old turbo manifold, you couldn't break that thing lol

Thanks to all of you who have posted your thoughts on the coating. I knew the cheep stuff would flake off from past experiences with my other cars but I just didnt know if the extra $$ was worth it. So far it seems that its worth the extra 120$ or so.
For those of you with the vibrant set up or know more about it than I do, is it the "Good" coating or the cheep stuff that is going to flake?
Thanks, Mike
honestly, whjen i buy a new part, i want it to be the best there is...so in the future, i dont go back to it and say "damn i wish i bought this instead of that" its not a lot more for the ceramic coating anyway.
I look at it this way, it can't hurt, and if its done right it is nearly indestructible. There is a local place that does awesome coating work for reasonable money, I will get a header done there if I don't buy one coated. Stay away from sprayed/painted on coatings, they don't hold up to the rapid heat cycling and exteme temperatures of a boosted engine very well, and if they do, they aren't cheap anyway.
Not a great idea, as true coating is at least as effective as wrap, usually more so. The wrap will only help to trap moisture on the exhaust, leading to quicker deterioration of the coating and it looks nasty. A nice coated header will look like new for many years and perform very well at the same time.
Alright well thanks for correcting me Itallian Joe. I put in my 2 cents. But I stand corrected and would like to thank you for you correcting me. I live in Arizona where it is always dry so. Thats how i would do it in arizona but since he doesent live in arizona I want tho thatnk you for that correction.
