Anyone have any info or know how on changing our Final Drive to the Grand Am Cobalt's 4.45? I would very much like to do this along with my Cams & Pistons. Thanks.

The factory service manual doesn't list gears available. What you posted after I posted says you can. Just takes $$ and a knowledgable shop to do it....

... NOT a PONTIAC GRAND AM's gear... the Cobalt that participates in the Rolex Grand Am Cup... they changed the Final Gear Drive to a high acceleration 4.45.

Give "WOP" (I think that's it), a PM off the redline forums. I asked him about this awhile back, and he said you can get the final drive ring from a saturn L-series to work, but that it was alot of labor to do it. Let us know what you find out.
Swapping that out will essentially make you a 4-speed stick. 1st will become even more useless than it is now, unless you have the stickiest of slicks, but it'll be fairly easy to launch in 2nd.
I think it would help immensly on road course and auto-x, where you probably spend the majority of the time in 2nd-4th gears, but for straight line and street, I'm not so sure. Your mileage will suffer, and your car would also be buzzing at a noisy 3400 rpm at 80 vs about 3000 with stock gearing. Keep that in mind if you plan on taking it on any road trips.
