Changing the cam timing?
Okay, please don't flame if this is stupid. I'm still learning and the Cobalt is my first car I've ever really worked on.
Anyways, last Friday I was at the track and took second in the Street Legal Series Sport Compact category (bracket racing). After packing up, taking off my slicks, etc, I went up to the tower to get my money for coming in second. On the way down there was a tent set up by STS (Squires Turbo Systems). STS sponsors the Midnight Drags at my track. The Midnight Drags are just heads up and a way to try and get people to stop street racing. I decided to stop and ask them if they had anything for the SS/SC. They said no, but gave me one recommendation. They said to change the cam timing mechanically by moving the intake cam forward by one tooth and the exhaust cam back one tooth. I'm not really sure if this makes sense. I get the reasoning, and because the LSJ has chains I'm sure they were referring to the chain that is driving the cams.
Does this make sense to anybody? Also, if this is possible would you recommend it? I've heard that the LSJ is finnicky and that something like this could cause some real problems for the engine. Let me know your thoughts.
