Check Gas Cap..Replaced...now what

about 2 weeks ago wifes car all of sudden dinged and that message came on, checked it/tightened...no change, then CEL...had it scanned, they didn't clear the CEL...got on here, searched...ended up getting new gas cap, replaced...still CEL...unhooked battery the other day and cleared it, drove car for a couple days (wife did) then the CEL came back on like...tuesday, says check gas cap every once in a while then it'll go off but still the CEL's on, so now what? i know i've seen where people are talking bout the evaporation solenoid..or something and another part....what exactly are the two and which to replace first or what else to look for or do

What kind of car and year is it. nvm this is in the LSJ forums lmao. I'm not sure but I'm assuming they have the same as the LNF's and there is a evap purge valve in the rear by the gas tank

crap, 06 ss/sc..85,000 miles, can't check code, prolly will monday hopefully...can't remember what it was when it was scanned, someone at pepboys used the older scanner where he had to look up the damn code...but yeah that solenoid...hard to replace..? OH main question, how bad is it to keep drving car with this CEl or problem...? does it basically just affect mileage...etc..?

probably p0455. I had the same exact problem on my 07 ss/sc, although mine preferred to throw the code more often instead of the message. When i took mine to the dealer they did a smoke test on the system for leaks, since p0455 means there is a "large" leak in the system. They performed the test which came out negative, meaning no leaks, but they did replace my gas cap for me which I encouraged. Then they informed me that there was an "updated" flash which would correct this issue, but since I am tuned I wouldn't let them flash it. I had my tuner erase the p0455 code, but I still get the occasional "check gas cap" message. It's actually been a while since the message has been displayed on my DIC, it seems to only occur on short drives if my gas tank is near empty. I haven't really noticed any issues with my car at all since this started happening, but I would say have the dealer do a smoke test to see if there are any leaks in the system.

If it is the 496 code, then that is what I had. I jsut replaced the evap purge solenoid and problem went away.

I had the 455 code... leakdown test was negative. no leak, held pressure for like 10 minutes with zero leakdown. went ahead and replaced the gas cap and the purge solenoid. code still came back

I just deleted all the evap codes with HPT. problem solved

what kinda mileage do you guys typically get in your ss/sc.(modded or not) ..the other day on fill up i figured my wifes car got about 26-27.5 mpg, and what the hell's up with the computers mpg ratings...? my wifes car is always saying it's like 33 or 34...never under 30 i know but...it's wrong..unless their's really like 15 gals in the tank, but it's a 13.5 tank and we run it to empty and always end up putting 12+ gals into it.......is the computer on crack thinking it's getting borderline hybrid mileage or what>............?

Do you reset the mpg after you fill it? When I bought the car I did that and it would be off by 2 or 3 mpg. So I stopped resetting it thinking it didn't work. Haven't reset it in a couple years and its within 0.3 mpg of what I calculated over that time.

tuning for larger injectors will skew the mpg readings to the high side. the bigger the injectors, the further off the mpg.

hmm, yah i reset the A trip always when we refill it....but when u go to buy a new car they always have the MPG..rating crap on them..and that stuff is never accurate so i just wonder if the computer/car/GM has a bullshit thing built in or something...but your saying to not reset any of the trips and the AVG MPG will start to go down to what it is realistically..?

It's just got a larger sample size to compare so its going to be more accurate.
