Clutch and flywheel. Any suggestions???
What's up people been a while but I need a clutch and flywheel. I'm not stock but I don't think I will be doing more mods to my car. If I do nothing dramatic. What clutch and flywheel should I go with thats fairly inexpensive? Should I get a lighter flywheel? Any help is appreciated
a bunch of lsj owners use the performance upgraded one from CED, it's like $250. a lot of others use the spec stock replacement one as well but that I think was a bit more pricey. I went with the GMP one and I'm happy with my decision.
as far as a flywheel, I'm not sure about that area with the LSJ, i resurfaced my stock one and it's been fine.

your gonna get a range of opionons, some hate spec some love them, some hate clutchmasters some love them etc etc
when it comes to flywheels its the same, matter of opionon, some love stock some love the lightweight
i went with an exedy to start and the pedal pressure was enourmous, like a race car, now i have a spec and it feels like stock, which is nice, no other complaints about either though, im a f23 so i cant comment on the exedy or spec for the f35, though i doubt theres much difference
i would recommend the GMP upgraded clutch tho, its been known to be an exellent choice

Now it said something about a clutch pipe when I change my clutch. Do I need that? N is this the clutch y'all talking abt? Ecotec LSJ Clutch Upgrade Kit 19212712 - Crate Engine Depot
^yep that's what we're talking about. it will hold a bit more power than stock from what everyone has been told (and seen). as for the clutch pipe, I'm not sure on that. I have a saturn redline, and while we do also have a clutch pipe similar to the cobalts, I didn't replace mine and it works fine. cobalt owners may suggest otherwise, and if it's cheap enough I guess why not.
I've seen complaints on other forums about lightweight flywheels, especially for daily drivers, because of the quick wind down. You don't get to coast like you used to because of less rotating mass, so you'll have to stay on the gas longer. You might think, oh thats not that bad, but if you're like me, you coast a lot. I could see how it would get annoying.
I've also heard that you don't get the inertia you would with a heavier flywheel to really launch the car from a dig. Granted, this was on a 3000GT forum, they were talking about AWD, so this probably doesn't apply as much to us but still.

Also, fyi I just found this while browsing RF which goes along with what I was saying:

Keep the stock flywheel if going with the GM upgraded clutch just have it cut by a machine shop it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the flywheel and pressure plate balanced together. Also you will have to replace the flywheel bolts just an FYI before you order the new clutch.
If you are getting the GM upgraded clutch then no it does not. Only comes with Clutch disk, pressure plate and throw out bearing.Ecotec LSJ Clutch Upgrade Kit 19212712 - Crate Engine Depot
