Last night at the drag races I hammered first spun through first, hit 2nd spun some more, third spun some more....the clutch held up beautifully through the slick track haha. Seems that some people just don't treat the clutch right. Start shifting at 3,000 rpms and see if that helps.

Mods/stock clutch?

I haven't heard many people able to spin all 3 gears back to back. Spin 2nd and chirp 3rd yes, but not spin all three.

We have a weak clutch slave cyclinder and that could be the problem to. And if your clutch is toast do this.....

put the car in 3rd gear when stopped and try to move, and give it some gas, if the car moves your clutch is fine. If it stalls, well it's problably bad.

Or when cruising 30mph or so go into 5th gear and floor it, if the RPM's go up and the car doesn't go any faster then the clutch is fried.

It feels like my clutch slips when i shift from 1-2 under 3k rpms. I have 42k on my car and about 50 track passes and my clutch is still good.

Stage 2, GMPP manifold, XTC downpipe, GMPP catback, Ingalls tq dampner, airbox mod, and stock clutch. What happend was there was oil on the track prior to my run in the left lane, they got it all cleaned up supposidly but not so. I spun a little in first and right when I got to the spot the oil had been spilt prior to my run I went to 2nd and lit the tires up...it wasn't wheel hopping so I went with it and figured the clutch would slip going into 3rd since I was spinning...but no it went right in and spun some more up untila bout 5,000 rpms where it caught traction. Its not typical for my car to do that, its just where the track was slick that it couldn't catch traction from the sucky pzero's

Ok question for you guys. This is the first time it's ever happened...So right at 6K in 3rd gear my exhaust backfires. I read it's because unburned fuel is escaping into the muffler and the heat from the exhaust causes it to explode. Is this a bad thing? Does it mean my fuel ratio isn't up to par?

WOT...

It happened twice actually...First time it happened, I thought I hit the redline but I was at 6K. Then it happened again (Only in 3rd gear)...and it was definitely backfiring

I can't remember...I'll try it again tonight. Maybe it's shooting a flame out the end...that would be cool

Ok I started a new thread, so we can get back on topic here.

I got my car back with the new clutch...feels much more stiff than I ever remember. Maybe the clutch received an "upgrade" from GM?

oo nice. do you have a dyno for 325?

and im in full agreeance with you.

this clutch can hold more HP than basically anyone on the site is pushing.
if you learn to drive it properly.

about $1200. I will be getting one when I can afford it.

Agreed. I have 37k on my OE clutch. Ive had the stage 3 Intense stage 3 kit with the 2.8 pulley on my car from about 5k mi to 25k mi. Now I have the Intense stage 4 with 2.6 pulley NO clutch problems as of yet. Im fortunate I guess but if it does go out Im also a certified ASE tech so no worries.

Everybody keeps talking about not babying this clutch, and that the car has to driven hard. Could somebody please explain, cuz I'm worried that my clutch might be slipping. I have about 40k in my car now.

Thanks

hey, now...be nice!

I've had my car since 30 miles, its got all most 10k on it now, been modding since 3k. I drive it hard sometimes, but I actually know how to drive, so I've never had clutch problems. I don't slip my clutch ever. I've owned over 20 cars in my life, at least 15 were manuals...I've never burned a clutch out in any of them.

so don't be so quick to classify...boys can suck at driving just as much as girls.

34k and still going strong. The issue was explained that you may be glazzing the clutch ie shift properly but leaving the clutch in too long after the shift as you get on the gas. The shift every 3k rpms thing was used by another member after he let his mom drive the car for a day. He was able to correct it in about 2 weeks or something like that. I agree that you can beat on it pretty good but you still have to understand your lowering your cars drivability by beating on it all the time. If it isn't the clutch then something else is going to fail eventually so your basically asking for the car to fail if you treat it like **** a lot of the time.

40,000 miles on my ORIGINAL STOCK CLUTCH!

And lemme tell ya... I beat the hell out of this thing. I DON'T drive it like an old lady at all. Shifts are always 2800+ rpm... I street race the hell out of it(Many many digs; I launch at Idle) and take it to 7k rpm on a daily basis (usually 5+ times a day. I've beat 172 cars in the last year... a lot of those cars I've raced more than once... and there are a lot of loses to be added in to that as well.

I think it's all in the driver. It's a difficult car to drive... and it's a very difficult CLUTCH to please.

PS. I've Stage 2 with a 2.8" pulley, GMPP Header, GMPP Cat-Back, Intake, Ingalls, Solid tranny Mounts, B&M SHort throw... maybe a few more.
