Ive got an 07 also and I have a Injen and I like it alot. When putting an intake on you do not need any supporting mods unless you feel it is necessary. The thing to do after that is get a stage kit!
I m an LS (2.2) guy but from what I ve heard go with a Injen sounds the best and will give you the best performance gains. As far as anything to do before or after not really just put her on and enjoy although a catback exhaust would probably go really well with it.
The ss/sc really does not need exhaust just get the cti overaxle replacement and a muffler and your set because most of the exhaust is already 2.5!
Something like an intake is a great place to start learning. Its fairly cheap, easy to install even for people that aren't mechanically handy, and doesn't require any special tools.
As for the learning places like this are great places to hear the good and bad of different intakes. Just because a company makes a good intake for another car doesn't mean they make a good one for your car. Asking around here about intakes for your SS/SC will help you find a good one for your car.

You can get it from Turbo Tech Racing. I bought mine from them. Talk to Aaron.. pretty cool guy. He'll hook you up and get you a good deal and ship FAST. They were around $215... dunno how much are they now. Check here: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/supporting-vendor-deals-group-purchases-133/2-0l-ss-sc-injen-intake-blow-out-149197/
Yep , If anything replace the downpipe. I just installed a 2.5 catted DP and when i pulled off the stock DP i was really surprised how small the inlet is on the flexpipe. It was a tick under 2 inches , whats the sense of putting any catback on when there is that big of a restriction in the DP .
